15" Nugget Finder Evolution.  So far I am finding it the most versatile.  Probably not as hot as a 12" Evo and probably not as deep as a 19" EVO but a great in-between coil for picking up small and large, shallow and deep and also covering a good amount of ground.

Just my personal preference but I would always buy a solid coil, not a spoked.  Spoked drive me nuts in amongst sticks and leaf litter.

You may notice I haven't mentioned a Coiltek coil, but it isn't because they aren't any good, I simply have never used one so can't say either way.  My 5000 came with a couple of Commanders and 4 NF coils so just have had no need to buy more coils of any sort.  Actually that's not true, I did recently pick up a Sadie Mk2 but that is because my brother-in-law won it  🙂

Let's say I'm  getting  a gpx 5000 / 4500 and going to use it in the Victorian  gold feilds (Australia) What coils would you recommend  to have to cover most situations.

Thanks in advance  Roy

Do you know what size of gold your local areas normally produce and the ground conditions, coils are  basically tools for the job at hand.

Small coils for smaller gold and large coils for larger nuggets.

If not a 12” Evo is a great all around coil.

In rubbish areas, heavy mineralization and near power lines you might consider a anti-interference DD

Hi Roy.  I've got a few spots where I have found lots of pieces of tiny gold in a concentrated area.  One of those spots I gave the Mk2 Sadie a run when I first got it and actually found a piece. A little write up here on page 6 about halfway down - https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/26308-northeasts-gpx-5000-finds/page/7/#comments

To be honest I probably won't use the Mk2 much but always good to have a small coil in the arsenal.  I am getting an Algoforce very soon as a back-up detector and also for family/friends to use and the Sadie MK2 will probably live on that.

I did wonder when I saw 'Roy' whether or not that was you.  Are you planning a trip south or have you become a Mexican?  Still chasing some treasures with the X-Terra (if my memory serves me correctly)?

Absolutely let me know when you’re down.

I’m not the person to answer this but if you already have a 4000 and if you have some flat wound coils, will a 4500 be much of a step up?

@Steve Herschbach @Jonathan Porter @PhaseTech might be able to answer that query?

There are 2 pretty clean units for sale on PA at the moment - a 5000 and a 4500.  In central coast NSW and Nowra.
