Hi all - just an fyi if youre looking into stavr scoops that the owner provides no response at all to emails after you've made a purchase from him. I was hesitant to buy a scoop from overseas but figured id give it a shot. Got less than two years out of it before the welds broke on it. Emailed stavr to see if they had any type of warranty or if he could id the metal composition of the stainless he uses to assist w rewelding the seams and he will not write back.

Additionally, stavr uses an oddball shaft size so if youre in a sutuation like mine, where you dont want to work w him anymore you're gonna have trouble matching up another sand scoop to any CF shaft youve had sized for the scoop. At the end of the day, i dont expect a free replacement or anything, just some courtesy to help respond to assist me in repairing the scoop. There are lots of good vendors in our industry, dont make the same mistake i made and pay a guy who walks away and goes silent once he has your money.

What could be a issue is he's fighting in the Ukraine/Russian war? The last I heard from him was Feb 2025 and as far as I know he is a active soldier or working in the war effort. He was recovering from injuries last year, I would suggest try contacting him on Facebook, his name is Ruslan Stavniychuk. In fact I will message him the question on the SS type. I do know for the best strength it is best to use the same rod as the base metal.. Me, I've welded it with what ever I had... 308 and 316 and never had a issue. The main thing is TIG or MIG, don't let them stick weld it.

His scoops are some of the best in my opinion, I've never had one but have friends that have them with no issues, but there is always going to be a few that fail. I know I've broken several in the 17 years of my beach hunting, right now I have two 720's from Chuck, since 2016 and 18, one of the supports did break but a easy fix.

Post up a picture of the scoop an breaks, always interested in seeing weak points of designs.

That's a very early Stavr..maybe one of his first designs?

He posted three designs over on Findmall when he first started. I loved that one but never got one.

Got this one for hard to dig beaches with gravel/shells
Also have a beach with very fine tightly packed sand/clay.
The tip of this scoop penetrates better than a wide rounded ones in both places.
Got it in December 2011.
Work well on dry sand also, fitted a fine mesh at the back to prevent having to dig a third time for small items that fall out the holes.
Real nifty when water hunting where there are small 3/16 ~ 1/4" lead sinkers.

I asked the metal used and got a reply today, Sunday March 2nd 2025

Hi I used aisi 431 (martensit) & 304 ( austenit)

It's easy to check with a magnet, if it's magnetic then it's martensite, if not then it's austenite
