This thread reminds me of what happens to graphite fishing rods when putting it together (attaching the the middle section to the lower section/handle, or the tip), and then not being able to take it apart.  I don't detect in salt water, but if something like that happens to my Manticore,  I would first try to:

a. Expand the upper shaft by soaking a towel hot water, and then wrapping it around both the lock and upper shaft...without allowing the towel to get near the lower shaft. And right after take another towel soaked in icy-cold water and wrap it around the lower end.  Both for a period of 2-3 minutes.

b. Leaving the towels in place to give you a strong grip (make sure that lock is not engaged), twist the lower end and upper while pulling them apart like you do with a fishing rod.

That said, I just thought about something else: would a fiberglass lower end expand and contract at the same rate as a carbon fiber one?  Just wondering.

I have 3 fiberglass lowers, one for my Deus and 2 for the Manticore. I don't think fiberglass will act the same way, but certainly will find out. The ribbed structure of the lowers I have does tend to trap fine silt. 🤔 I haven't had much trouble as yet but I always clean my gear thoroughly after every water hunt now because I have had a seized rig in the past.

The wax is working for me! 🙂

In " clean critical" lubricatable areas (ie varible speed clutches etc) I use a spray graphite lubricant that leaves a slight graphite residue but nothing sticky that will attract dirt/dust. Might give it a try, it is more durable than silicone spray.

Good luck

any spray attracts dirt. a good wash after searching is the best. everyone makes their own conclusion.

absolutely the best answer is a daily washdown, however a week long desert hunt may have limited water to spend. I have used graphite for years, it leaves only a graphite layer. can get you by until a good wash down is avail.
