It got cold, windy and snowed, so I spent the day making a couple of wooden rings. One was made with three layers of stir sticks for paint cans. Then dark middle layer was soaked in a dark coffee solution. Three pieces were glued and clamped together.  I used a cherry stain for the final color. I kind of wished I hadn't, as it turned out too dark. The second one was made with a birch tree we cut down on our front yard about 10 years ago, and saved the wood, covered with a tarp. I crushed a one inch piece of petrified bone from my local gold producing river,  removing the -20 mesh and using the  20 mesh crush to maintain some contrast with the crushed bone insert. Here's how they turned out. It's good to have hobbies after retirement.

Personally, I like wood with some contrast and warm tones.  So the coloration on the darker one looks nice, and the crushed Dino bone is rather cool!
