This detector represents a great first move into  multi frequency by Nokta.  The sense I get though is that it tries to reach a bit too far.  While the Legend has a lot of great features, it lacks the processing power to really accomodate them.  A machine like the Manticore (price notwithstanding) shows us just what can be accomplished with extremly strong processing.  With the Legend, when you try to  use for example, salt (W) mode while knocking out iron (F mode) or running Iron Bias up high, (Dilek warned us about this) or running  BC Reject, the Legend struggles to process all the incoming information and loses depth. At the same time, its a very stable machine but with multi FQ this can also mean that the detector is working so  hard to maintain threshold that Sensitivity is lost.  This is a common fault of early MF detectors like the Sov and Excal. In fresh water the depth is pretty impressive--it hits bottlecaps at 16" plus with a loud signal.  I like this machine enough to have bought both the LG24 and LG35 coils but just feel that these shortfallings need to  be pointed  out.  The Manticore processes around things--iron rejectiion, multiple targets, interference, Sensitivity too high, "notch"--its still performing.  The Legend gets weaker.  I would suggest running this machine with as wide open a settings as the conditions allow.  That's when it's at its best.

Good insight, Clive.  The Legend is still co -lead unit for me.  When Nokta releases their new PIs, I bet the next level VLF will follow.

Exactly my impressions. I don’t know if it’s the CPU or the programming language they are using, but it seems like sometimes it can’t quit keep up with everything. It’s still a good detector and it’s been good for me. However, my back can’t handle it anymore. I’m not suggesting this is true, but it acts like they use Python instead of a lower-level programming language.

It’s amazing that the Manticore does all it does and remains fluid. I did come across a scenario where it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to do. I think this was something the software just couldn’t handle. Can’t cover every possibility.

Somewhere in there, there’s a big difference. The Manticore is doing live graphics updates along with everything else. The Legend seems like it struggles a little sometimes, but there sure is a whole lot of people using it with great success.

Now I'm in the market for another coin detector. Legend or Manticore? More research haha.

The first thing you may want to think about is just how much money you willing to spend. The price point between the two detectors is some what of a difference.

I don’t know what detector you have now but if you put out the money for the Manticore I can’t see you calling it your backup detector.

The Legend is a good detector with a good selection of coils if you have the need and lot less money.

I don’t care what you buy but money is a contributing factor that comes up in our life all the time .

Best to you in whatever you buy.

Thanks Chuck, for coins I have been using the Equinox 800, getting my son into detecting so giving him the Nox.

Good excuse for me to upgrade have been leaning towards the Legend, that's if the Legend is an upgrade from the Equinox 800? Not real concerned on price, just thinking of having a spell from Minelab.

I'll also say this: Like the Anfibio the Legend is a very strong processing detector.   Its very slow compared to the Manti though.  Overall the Legend's FQ weightings are low too. What this means is that its good at picking out small targets that are in close to iron.  However the Manti does earrings next to an eight inch spike--no contest.  Anyone who has used the Manti in Trash Reject mode knows what superb processing feels like.  It just ignores caps and spikes to bring up clean targets.  The Legend is a great starter machine for anyone who wants to get the hang of a full featured MF detector but don't expect world class  performance from it.  Similarly, when you try and run the Equninox  800 with the 15" coil in salt it starts to "click" because it's just not processing at a high enough level.  Dankowski says the same thing about the Manti but with the power and fidelity that's offered therer are ways to get some performance.  Some say  (Tony!) that there's only  a 2 inch difference....yikes.  I do a ton of testing: Freestyle, Prospecting audiio,  (surf and Beach Gen  modes) Two Tone, Excal audio--jury still out on the 15" --all these machines struggle with the signal to noise issue in salt when you try and run large coils.  Tip? Avoid  moving the coil N/S especially where there is a grade (slope).

I don’t hunt in a saltwater environment so l will not question your experience.  I don’t recall what your Inland conditions are like, but l know you are experienced there also.   I think you are not giving the Legend enough credit. It is considerably more than a beginner’s SMF machine.  In my tough red Maghemite soils it perform very well indeed. Add iron trash and it still performs at a very high level.  Manticore level?  I don’t know.   The Rutus Versa, l know, and the Legend is real close if set up & used correctly. That is high praise.

The best machine in one environment may not always be the best in all situations. I’m glad that is true. Having just one detector would not be near as fun. And l bet l wouldn’t find as many interesting targets.

Ive just  been shocked by the performance loss running in salt / "F" mode and in black sand  overall. for sure these could be tuning issues.
