I really don't know. According to Google it is civil war era, but I'm sure anything is possible. I really don't know much about this stuff. It is cool though

Not seeing the backmark, but I can say the front is definitely 2-piece Civil War Union Army in design. Eagle's head to its right, wings pointed upward high. Later Indian War period buttons had the eagle wings less high and the stamping was not as refined. If you can read a backmark, I can tell you more. Some issues were plain "tin backs", while others had no manufacturer's marks. The higher the quality of manufacture the back was usually made of brass and the maker's name was a raised mark in a circular depressed channel and the loop (shank) was brazed in.

Great shape it is, nice find. Scovill MFG CO WATERBURY. Small lettering 1850 to 1870. Large lettered b/m's (backmarks) 1870. Yours is the large lettering 1870 on.

Very good info to know about the height of the wingtips.
