I often wonder how much extra some of us put into the Hobby to get more out of it. I see your list of the head aches ..and I know you do your trips and keep up with all the latest detectors, than put in all the research time. And I'm sure that is just a fraction of cost needed to be a success.

Me, I do hunt local and try to keep all my beaches with in a hour. But then I bought a boat and each year I have boat ramp fees to get to spots most can't, this year the fees will be close to 600+ dollars. Then add in all the equipment for the harsh weather, the list goes on and on..

The hobby does pay for itself but like the old saying goes, sometimes it takes money to make big money?

that's so true, Joe.  Its the ones that  aren't afraid  to lay out a few bucks who  are in a positon to make the big finds.  That's  why it makes me laugh when people cry about the $17 cost of one of my books.  Just  the amount I spend on postage / repairs in a year can be in the thousands....

I just bought a $350 pair of Costa Topsails because I know that they will help me to spot valuables under the water....
