Popular Post tboykin
My buddy Josh and I have been trying to break away from our familiar spots since the gold has been drying up and it’s good to get outside your comfort zone. There’s a spot in Southern Oregon that I had on my list for a couple years. It’s really hard to get to and in some rough country. Thick poison oak, steep hills. Critters and lots of surrounding claims. But good history of big gold, I worked in recent days, and small enough to escape the prying eyes of previous detectorists. Last week we finally hiked in. In a few hours of detecting I scared up two pieces, a .25 gram booger and a 1.75 gram quartz specie. I scrubbed down with Dawn dish soap when I got home, picked off a tick and edited a quick video if you want to come along. It was a tough hike in, we saw some rattlesnakes and found some gold. All in all a great little day trip. I’m hoping to get back out to Eastern Oregon soon and will try and get back to Nevada sometime. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to the Silver State! 26 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28199-researching-new-ground-success/ Share on other sites
GotAU?
That almost looks like a conglomerate - cemented together grains of quartz intermixed with deposited gold. Pretty interesting! 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28199-researching-new-ground-success/#findComment-295307 Share on other sites
tboykin
The best spots we’ve detected have had both kinds of gold- specimens and dense, river bottom gold. This video shows you can find both in one area. The bigger one to me looks like it precipitated in a quartz vein that was hot/pressurized enough to crystallize. Then it eroded and moved enough to round the edges. It’s one of my favorite pieces of gold I’ve found. I like it so much I gave it to my parents! 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28199-researching-new-ground-success/#findComment-295308 Share on other sites

Most times when I think there is no way someone has detected a spot, I end up seeing 14" wide dig holes and piles of dug up iron! 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28199-researching-new-ground-success/#findComment-295428 Share on other sites

Probably a good idea to clean it up to help keep it hidden. But just the presence of PO would keep me out, I used to be immune to that stuff but not anymore. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28199-researching-new-ground-success/#findComment-295429 Share on other sites
Gerry in Idaho
Sometimes, half the fun is the adventure of going to new areas. Those snakes are there to protect the gold. Well earned again my friend. PS. Why no body cover kit on your GPX-6000? Just from experience as a dealer selling detectors (new and used), the $130 cover protects about $300+ in resale value of better condition. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28199-researching-new-ground-success/#findComment-295911 Share on other sites
