Popular Post Jim in Idaho
Had a nice day yesterday, so decided to go coin and relic hunting instead of more work on the belted magnetic black sand separator. Chris and I have been hunting an old dirt hiway that was used from the 1800's into the 20th Century. Hadn't found much other than cartridges, and few broken items, like horshoe parts, square nails, etc. We do about 1/2 mile...going down and back to cover it all. Yesterday, about an hour in, I got a good signal on the DFX, and dug up this half dollar. Couldn't believe it was actually a coin until I saw the seated on it. My best coin, ever. Oldest, and most value. We still have a few miles to go. Just going out on the nicer days...probably head out again, Saturday. Cool placen to detect...the road winds through a juniper forest at the base of the mountains. Detecting with CM
That is a awesome coin. Over 150 years old. Is that the first silver half for you? Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28233-1871-seated-liberty-half/#findComment-295611 Share on other sites
Jim in Idaho
1 hour ago, Detecting with CM said: That is a awesome coin. Over 150 years old. Is that the first silver half for you? Yup...it is. You don't find a lot of coins here, period, so an older high-value coin is pretty rare. And, Idaho being a relatively poor state until recently, people did a good job of protecting their wealth in the old days. I was actually pretty stunned to find this one. Matt4gold
That half is in great condition Jim. You must have been running both frequencies. You’re correct slim pickings here in Idaho. I moved from Charleston SC where many areas are off limits because of historic sites but permission hunts can turn up old coins. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28233-1871-seated-liberty-half/#findComment-295669 Share on other sites
