Popular Post Lodge Scent
Hiked out to one of my favorite sites. It was one of the first virgin sites I had detected many years ago. It has given up a lot of coppers over the years and I thought it was pretty well played out. But I managed to sniff out 2 coppers today. The first was a dateless Matron Head. The second was a beautiful 1798 Draped Bust. But alas, its beauty was short lived. Some coppers when exposed to the air after spending a couple hundred years in the ground just go to heck right in your hand in just a couple of minutes. If I would have had a can of my wife's hairspray, I would have doused it dirt and all. Hair spray does a great job in sealing and preserving those fragile patinas. Works great on flakey pewter buttons as well. Still, I was happy to find it and it still has some nice features and I can read the date and letters. F350Platinum
Good one Lodge! Got a busy summer coming up, all fields are planted now, but I might do some woods hunting myself if the beaches get too trifling. I like your idea of hair spray on the coins before they crumble, might get a small can of TSA approved hair spray and keep it on me. Congrats on the DBLC! 🏆 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28259-a-couple-of-coppers/#findComment-295785 Share on other sites

Thanks Art, not my typical LC. 23 hours ago, JCR said: Very good. That’s a pretty spot to hunt. Yeah I've been hitting that spot for almost 15 years JCR. It still gives up some goodies now and then. 21 hours ago, Jim in Idaho said: Gotta like those. Great place to detect. Jim The best part Jim is it is secluded. I've never seen anyone there or signs of anyone there. 21 hours ago, F350Platinum said: Good one Lodge! Yeah you can't have that sun beating on your head all summer. Get out into the woods now and then. 😉 7 hours ago, Ripcode said: That coin is a beauty! 😊 Thanks Ripcode. I think Draped Busts are one of the nicest designs ever minted. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28259-a-couple-of-coppers/#findComment-295846 Share on other sites
