I have a 1840 house site that has given up some once in a lifetime type of finds. It’s loaded with iron of all sizes has been in constant habitation so it is loaded with trash of all types. I’ve hunted it with the manticore, CTX, explorers, sovereign ,1236×2, G2 .  I primarily have been using the manticore on this site with great success, but the site has quit producing good finds. No coins have been dug in the last several hunts. The site has produced big French silver from the 1700s all the way up to modern wheat pennies, large cent, half dimes, several modern dollar coins, lots of coins, Yankee buttons, confederate buttons, confederate spurs, and lots of relics. It’s a really good site but the good finds have quit coming out of the ground no matter what I use. I haven’t dug one single Indian head penny. Yet!  I picked up a minelab musketeer Advantage and put a 13” ultimate coil on it hoping to find the other Confederate spur. Cruised in there effortlessly and dug these few relics and Indian head penny with clean hits, nothing mind blowing, but the site wasn’t producing any sizable non-ferrous or coins so very impressed with musketeer Advantage in iron and trash. Iron and nails was in every hole. What’s strange I consider the G2 and Manacore the best Indian head penny machines made right now. And I’ve been all over that coin with both machines and never got a hit that I could decipher and dig. I know I’ve been over that Indian head several times with every machine because it’s only 3 foot from the half dime I dug.

rvpopeye, the older monotone machines are just another tool when working a site down. Thanks for your kind words.

I always find it interesting how different detectors and/or coil combinations "see" differently.  There is real advantage to having a variety of different detectors & coils to work a good site. Hit it with all you got.  Well done for a young man & a 20+ year old 5kHz analog beep & dig.

JCR, I am not too sure about that analogy of beep and dig everyone uses. I’ve learned on a site that you have hammered it down with the newer top tier tone machines. The new tone machines are the best for a site that hasn’t been pounded. I had used or have every top machine available. The targets that are left after using those newer machines are the most challenging targets and sound smeared and will not lock on very well. I can walk in a site with a (beep and dig) as everyone calls them and hear and dissect targets at another level. I can hear a lot more in the audio on the monotone machines. Really don’t matter what brand either. They just work. That’s why not much left in a lot of sites. Thanks

I agree. My Vista X has proven that many times.
