Thank you. Well done. It's the most difficult part of sharing outdoor adventures. I quit trying to film deer and duck hunts because I stopped harvesting game. Then the editing, takes far longer than the trip. I appreciate you acknowledging the work involved. Doing it solo is brutal. I stopped filming alone for a while but after last year, I feel I've found enough gold to pass on some to share the experience with others. Thank you. I really appreciate it. Most don't realize how much time it takes. And your compliments are motivational. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295872 Share on other sites
Wild Bill
It does appear that the source of some of the gold is the localized quartz veins. Not all auriferous veins contain gold to depth. The other gold is from the channel that cut gold veins somewhere not too far away. The Majuba mountains to the immediate west has some tin deposits. This may have something to do with the gold deposits. IRGS (Intrusion Related Gold Systems) the result of granitic intrusions or plutons about a mile wide produce high grade gold veins at the contact with the pluton (proximal deposits) and at a distance on average of 1 1/2 miles (distal deposits). In exploration models, these IRGS deposits which occur in tungsten and tin districts and are often overlooked and under recognized. That’s the first thing I noticed in these exploration papers. During the 1980s when modern exploration was hot and heavy, the IRGS model didn’t exist. It wasn’t until Kinross Gold Corp discovered Fort Knox Mine near Fairbanks that the ore model took off. Old time geologists, prospectors and miners knew about the gold connection to small granitic intrusions. Not to be mistaken with batholiths. As I mentioned, there are rich gold deposits north of Rye Patch all the way to the boundary of Pershing and Humboldt counties within the extensive tungsten district. Probably related to the intrusions. In that area the geology seems nearly identical to Rye Patch and large nuggets are found in the Star Peak shale near and at the mineralized quartz veins. https://nevada-outback-gems.com/prospecting_info/majuba_mtns.htm 3 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295886 Share on other sites
Wild Bill
I’m just trying to be helpful here in possibly opening up new opportunities. There’s no reason that these gold deposits wouldn’t exist in Nevada as the State has the same Ark-Back Ark volcanics as Alaska. I know of several Jr Miners that hold ground on IRGS and some under exploration. Gold Skarns are mined in the state. I’ve found three plutons that produce high grade specimens in the proximal and distal zones. The largest producer but the lowest grade is the Intrusion Host sheeted vein deposits like Fort Knox. Anyway here’s some schematics with general geochemical signatures. The pluton can be hidden underground but still produce gold deposits around it. This isn’t Epithermal, it’s quite different. These are older deposits but still can have Epithermal over-printing within the IRGS zone or district. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295894 Share on other sites

Gerry in Idaho
Nikko, Glad to finally meet you in person as well. You're everything in person as I had expected during our conversations. Sorry my GPS coordinates were not as good as the hand written turn Left go 1.3 miles and then go 13.5 miles to the end of asphalt and then turn right and go 1.9 miles to the orange cone.😆 As for a venture in Hollywood and or TV? That's not my cup of tea. They either want stupid, or goofy and on occasion, both. Only a select few folks are perceived as themselves and how they be. Plus, me showing TV viewers where I'm finding gold (even just indicators) would pretty much destroy the relationships I've built over time to hunt such sites. Now with the price of gold, it makes it that much harder. TV doesn't care about you when the show is over, they on to something else. Yes, there's still gold to be found at Rye Patch and in fact one of the Reno Prospectors just found a 4 gram nugget near the burn barrel (posted on FB). You did quite well yourself, but I also know you're much more experienced than all others in the class, at running detectors. On a side note, the guy from Alabama who purchased a claim on section 20, he found 2 nuggets on his own with his Manticore and M8 coil. Thanks a long drive to get a couple nuggets, but at the same time, he can now offer to sell that claim as a Proven "Gold Nugget Producing Claim" and probably 3X his investment.🤣 Your videos are most interesting with actual prospecting knowledge, some great footage and even a little humor (foot lifting the toilet lid looking for the Poo)😝 Anyways, it was fun to finally meet up and I look forward to it again next month. 2 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295904 Share on other sites

Sounds like I'd fit in with my signature toilet seat lift. 😄 I've only heard bad things about working on the lens side of that industry (not counting YouTube videos where one person can run everything). I worked behind the scenes (financial software engineering) side of Hollywood for 4 years and I always dreaded my flights to Burbank. Fake fake fake fake fake. Anyways, I was just referring to your acting bit on the phone. That was fun, thanks again. 🙂 Yes! I saw that nugget Chris pulled out! What a beautiful piece. That's great to hear the man from Alabama also got a 2nd one on his claim! I had a feeling he was going to make the most of that trip coming from so far. 4 hours ago, Gerry in Idaho said: Nikko, Glad to finally meet you in person as well. Your course was much more robust and thorough than I expected. I know I would have picked up more knowledge staying around camp Saturday morning, but you're a fellow Auddict. You know how it is sometimes. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295929 Share on other sites
Shojo510
Nikko, That was a great time out there! An excellent group all around. What a challenge, what a blast! A whirlwind of a weekend for sure. Focus Focus focus and even then you may not get on the board…but as always well worth the efforts. Great chatting with you out there look forward to catching up with you in the future. Good job on the vid I look forward to part 2 and following the Gold Master 2 challenge. Wild Bill
Here’s some pics of sheeted veins and flat veins. Sheeted veins are thin as a sheet. These contain up to 1 OPT gold and 10 OPT silver. You can cut sheeted veins with a concrete saw and pan fine gold. There are dozens of larger pegmatite/quartz veins up to a foot thick al running parallel. This is what an Intrusion Host gold deposit looks like. It’s within the granite intrusion up to about a mile wide. Sheeted veins were ignored by old timers for obvious reasons but can be mined by open pit. They can produce placer gold and small nuggets. The flat veins were sometimes mined because they can be very high grade. They have little dip, about 20’ and rich pockets can be found. In one of these flat veins, miners took out a million dollar pocket in a stope between two flat veins at $20 per ounce. Something different and odd, not Epithermal and can be a possible source for gold detecting. 3 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295938 Share on other sites
Wild Bill
Sorry if I’ve wandered off the reservation here. I’ve just thought that the Rye Patch placer gold is genetically connected to the intrusions of Majuba mountain that produced tin. When I was asked to evaluate a shut down placer mine up north of the Rye Patch placers and found both to be nearly identical. Different in that the other placer north of Rye Patch is in a Tungsten district. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Intrusion related gold is found in tungsten and tin districts. Both placers in Star Peak shale. So… look for similar gold placers in Nevada near tungsten or tin mines in the Star Peak or any Triassic shale. Some prolific nugget patch never detected might be just sitting there waiting for you. Pretty simple and I didn’t mean to make it complicated. Thanks for posting the great pictures of gold and Rye Patch that keeps on giving! It would be nice to find another one. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/2/#findComment-295940 Share on other sites
