Roughwater
Glad you all had a good time. I was hoping to make it out there for Gerry's class but it wasn't in the cards. I really like hearing about people detecting at Rye Patch as that is where I found my first Nugget in one of Gerry's classes in 2005. Gold was a little bigger there in 05. Gerry is a great detector teacher. He's an Ex-Marine and it showed in his class. He taught me well. I had purchased a GP 3500 from him and found a small nugget the 3rd day of class in what looked to be a drywasher tailings pile. I stuck around another day and found 7 more nuggets I believe. I was extreamly lucky and found a 1 ounce nugget. I was on cloud nine. A couple camping there volunteered to clean it overnight for me. But it might as well been a hundred ounces I wasn't about to let it out of my sight. Best day of nugget hunting I ever had. I want to get back out there this year if possible. I haven't seriously prospected for Gold since 2006 but I intend to give it another serious go this fall. The pick below is my haul from back then. Right now I've collected a Modded 5000, a Gold Monster and a Algoforce Plus. I also picked up a Highbanker/Sluice combo. I plan to get a Drywasher as well when I get out west. I'm anxious to see part 2 of this video! 4 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/4/#findComment-296108 Share on other sites

I'm anxious to see part 2 of this video! Wow what a tale, Beautiful pieces! I'm sure we were all dreaming of having an experience like yours. Easter weekend is a tough time to get a hallpass, I almost didn't make it myself. Would have loved to have met you at the class I'm sure your previous success would have pumped us up even more to rake down every pile! From what I am learning about detecting for gold I'm sure there is more out there to find as they say no one can get it all...maybe the thousands could? no no if hteres still targets theres still gold!!! NO time like the present to get back into something and put those great tools and skills to use. Go get it! Hope to see you out there in the field one of these days John 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28273-over-the-hill-my-first-experience-hunting-nuggets-in-nevada-with-gerrys-detectors-team/page/4/#findComment-296120 Share on other sites

It would have been a great experience being around other folks that are gung ho on Detectoring. Hopefully if you get out in the fall I'll give you a heads up when I manage to get out west. Being retired is almost like having a permanet hallpass with just a few restrictions. Distance was the most restrictive, secondly cost. I probably would have gone but both were factors. I can usually manage one good trip a year so I'll save it for the fall when I can stay longer. I hope to be out for a month or so if all goes well. I believe it will be around the 20th when my wife gets back from her Cruise, her first one, then I get to play! That coil looks a lot like the one on my GP Extreme. It's surprisingly sensitive but I'll be replacing it/comparing with a Nuggetfinder Sadie I grabbed from Gerry at the patch.
