I've been there twice and no diamonds to show... Yet

Maybe the next time will be the charm!

  • The title was changed to Crater Of Diamonds

We just spent two days there in April before that guy found that bigger one.  We had no luck this time either.

It had been about 3 weeks since the last good rain so we were regulated to digging, panning and washing the rocks at the stations.  I should have brought my round classifiers that Keene makes for the buckets.  They are faster than the equipment you rent at the park.  I did have some gold pans.

There was someone else there using the round classifiers and I could tell I would have a series of them rather than use what we had.

I have four graduated sizes of classifiers that fit on a 5-gallon bucket. I used them when cleaning concentrates after dredging years ago and searching for diamonds.

The first time I was at the park I had no idea what a rough diamond looked like. There were 2 guys digging by hand and were in a hole over their heads. I struck up a conversation with them and the next day they showed me their technique for classifying the dirt, what a diamond looked like and the "pay" layer they were looking for while digging. Just bought a small camper and will try to make it there this summer.
