Rob Allison
Hey Gerry, Did you make it to the Australian Dealers Conference? Curious what US dealers went, seems like the majority didn't make it over there. It will be interesting to see the two new units, guessing a new GM and GPZ. Minelab would have done the math already based on their forecasted sales for each prospective new model - the decision on what to manufacture then becomes easy. Minelab are the only ones who know their profit margins and sales forecasted sales volume for each model - so we can only guess what the second gold machine will be. What you say is true as long as there remains a discernable performance advantage to spending 15000. As soon as the 5000 machine starts performing at the level of the 15000 machine then sales drop like a rock and the 5000 machine gets renamed "Legendary" .... think high end digital cameras being replaced by cell phones..... might not be a perfect example but you get my drift..... For minelab to maintain their grip on the high $$ market, they have to deliver outsize high end results which they have done in the past, but those expensive GP x/y/z machines can be replaced in the starting lineup overnight when another homerun technology is developed by an upstart.... As companies mature they generally get lethargic and the young whippersnappers upset the applecart...ask Whites about that.... 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28324-next-minelab/page/6/#findComment-296692 Share on other sites

I agree - for my comments about "follow the money" to be correct the GPZ8000 at the $15000 AUD price point would need to be "finding new gold on existing well worked gold fields" type technology that cant be easily replicated by competitors. If it was just a reboxing and minor review of existing GPZ7000 technology (and cutting out the use of X-coils) i doubt there would be much demand at $15000 AUD. It needs to be like an ME262 - first operational jet fighter in WW2 that changed everything and instantly made all piston powered fighters obsolete. 9 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28324-next-minelab/page/6/#findComment-296698 Share on other sites

Rob Rob, This will be the 1st time I have missed one in my 25+ yrs Minelab Dealership. What's the use of a Minelab Dealer showing up anyway? You are correct, the majority of us (including myself) are not going. It's not like the Management of past that wanted you to be there. No worries, I'll be at an event swinging/promoting a detector, that I was invited to. Heck, even Steve H will be there at the event with me. Besides, do you really think us Salty Dogs are wanted to be there? I know for a fact, I was never encouraged or provided warm fuzzies. Those days left Minelab USA many quite a while ago. 3 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28324-next-minelab/page/6/#findComment-296711 Share on other sites

Several dealers I know did not make it nor myself, I guess for some it's their age and for others they were just too busy trying to keep a small business afloat and it would be quite an expenditure. I'm still hoping we could still do a teleconference call to catch up on what's being presented this week. 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28324-next-minelab/page/6/#findComment-296719 Share on other sites

I'm sure you will make some good lemonade with whatever they release if it is good and help us old part-timers determine if this is a real value proposition or if the time for top ends has passed us by.
