I'm trading for a Deus 2 w/9" coil.

I have my reasons why but I'm not going to say.

  • Oh my! 2

Well, I for one would love to hear what you find lacking in the Manticore. You obviously have lots of experience so making this switch must have some solid reason it turns out to be incompatible with your needs. If you change your mind about sharing your perspective it could possibly shed some light on any limitations that might be affecting the rest of us....

Good luck with your D2, I have wondered many times whether I should own onw. I had a D1 for a couple years, but was a bit to complicated for setting up for me to ever get comfortable with it but I keep hearing such great things about the D2 I still wonder.

You can have fun detecting with any detector. They are all vlf's and basically the same. I'm enjoying hunting with my AT Gold and Tejon. Some have a little more depth and better separation. I think separation is the most important. Not really a great difference in most detectors, at least in mild ground. In mineralized ground than it all changes. I haven't experienced a big difference in multi- frequency and single frequency in my mild ground. All my detectors go deep.

If I could only have 1 detector I would be happy with my Tejon.

It’s all about what you’re happy with not the guy next to you!

The Best but don’t forget that new XP HF coil will be out soon.

I agree with the others. Having the next best thing is mostly a pursuit of the ego. Will it help you find more stuff? Maybe...will it be a lot better than what you're currently swinging? Probably not. I was caught up in that race for a bit when I finally came to the conclusion that I wasn't digging any more (or less) than what I was with my older detectors. So unless some technology comes along that changes the game all together, you're better off sticking to what you have and worrying less about what you don't. Happy hunting!

I was very happy with my MXTPRO, other than the fact that I aged out of it, as it was too heavy for my aging arm and lacked a multifrequency design which I believe is the right answer and so I went manticore which I expect should do pretty much everything well and plan to keep it for a long long time time......

If I lived and hunted in areas where there wasn't much mineralization, I was able to dig shallow or deep with no restrictions and target ID was less important than just getting a ferrous or non ferrous response or any hit at all, like Rick said, any detector with good depth and good target separation that I knew well and I liked swinging would be just fine.

The latest simultaneous multi frequency VLF detectors are fantastic for their versatility. That versatility comes at a learning curve cost on some models.

If I was just a coin/jewelry hunter even in the higher mineralization around here, I would probably be very happy with a Nokta Triple Score or X-Terra Elite, especially if I did some water hunting too. But, that's not what I do so I need the Monster Manticore.

Rick, I am a big fan of my Deus 2 also. I haven't heard of repeated waterproofing issues with Deus 2 either. With the 9" coil, it is an absolute pleasure to use just about anywhere and for me anyway, the XP detectors are the closest thing to a multi tone audio, lightweight, fully waterproof Tesoro with a multi featured display.
