So a friend got me started in this hobby back around 1990. Got a Whites Eagle Spectrum, and a Fisher 1280 Aquanaut. Then in 93 bought a boat, chased striped bass until 2006 when the boat had to go because I got married and we needed a place to live. (No the boat wasn’t big enough to live on LOL) Dusted off the detectors and got back into the hobby. Then I discovered a couple of things, if I wanted to be successful at a saltwater beach, a multi frequency detector seemed to be much better. (At least that has been my experience) and I was much older. I LOVED that Whites Eagle Spectrum, but could no longer swing it for long periods due to its weight. This led to me getting an Excalibur, with a chest mount and straight rod, for the beach, and an At Pro for all my inland use. I am very happy with both detectors. Last fall a guy I work with, had his father-in-law pass away. He had an Equinox 800 the family was wanted to be sold as no one was in the hobby, on;y used 3-4 times, in new condition. We decided 450 was a price that worked for both of us. So now I am about to take the EQX to the beach on Sunday to start learning a new machine. So while trying to educate myself on the EQX I found this site, and well, here I am, HI! I am an electrician, stepfather, husband, sometime woodworker, and have an honorable from the USAFR.

Welcome Aboard Airman, or maybe I should say Artman? I owned a Whites Eagle in what seems like a lifetime ago. You can't go wrong with the Minelab machines. I've owned a few over the years.  I'm more into the gold prospecting now although I'm not located in a area generally know for gold. I was in the Marines but worked for the AF as a civil service for many years. I retired from Seymour Johnson AFB as a civil servant. Working for the military for me in whatever capacity felt like more than just a job. The folks here at this website have always been real civil and helpful. I have a lot of other interests too but find myself coming back to metal detecting. I always enjoyed it and see it as something I can do even as I continue to age. There is much information here on Detecting already but if it doesn't address your questions feel free to ask. I'm not a spokesperson for this site I just happened to see your post and feel it shouldn't go unanswered.

Best Regards,

Terry

  • The title was changed to Hi! From Pepperell MA

Welcome Artman.... I believe that this forum will help you, advise you and answer all your questions regarding your detector and detecting...
Among other things, you will also find answers to successful detection in various detection situations,, in which you may find yourself...

Finally, no less valuable are the contributions of forum members who publish their experiences and findings during their detections...,,as well as explain the detection situations in which they find these targets...-which is another great encyclopedia of proper detecting..

So, in my opinion, you are really in the right place...
