Popular Post mn90403
Today I took a short drive to a beach that has some of the weirdest stuff and today added to its reputation. I was testing sounds again when I was in normal and I heard a high pitched portion of a deep target. I normally use Prospecting and Beach Low but at this particular moment I had water and Normal up above the black sand line. I couldn't locate it easily on the screen with the 15" coil but it kept a very high number above 80. Out of the hole it comes in about 65-70. When I saw what was in the scoop I thought it was a fishing lure. It felt like lead but it didn't have any way to attach hooks. It also doesn't have a loop to suggest it was used as a pendant. I don't know what it was made for and need your suggestions. My local coin shop confirmed that it is lead but they said only 50%. The other 50% is nickel which explains the hardness and lack of corrosion. I'll do a visual search with these pictures. mn90403
I still don't know if it is just a one off and if it has any age. The beach I found it on is old and new and has junk dumped on it and old things too. As a matter of fact, several of us looked at some other things I found there at my metal detecting club meeting and one of the pieces I found that looked like a rough nail/spike we think was used in a ship's hull. I highlight that in the old post. Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28429-25-ounce-mermaid/#findComment-297250 Share on other sites

King-Of-Bling
I have the exact same mermaid , along with others to a set. Which include half moon , star , sun , wizard and a couple others. All found on a beach in LA , within about a 10' area in the wet sand. Found all mine about 5 yrs ago. Through my research , I found them to be "Santeria" offerings. You can look them up. 4 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28429-25-ounce-mermaid/#findComment-297479 Share on other sites
mn90403
I looked at those but even with CoPilot didn't come up with an exact match or find a set. Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28429-25-ounce-mermaid/#findComment-297719 Share on other sites
GotAU?
King of Bling is right, they are figurines for Santaria, Yemaya or Yemọja offerings- a goddess of the sea in African and some Caribbean religions. It’s also a fertility goddess Mitchel, so you may not want to touch it! 🤣 Also for sale here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/786109097/yemaya-herramientas-con-corona-yemaja 4 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28429-25-ounce-mermaid/#findComment-297729 Share on other sites

Very similar to this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/295058777215 2 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28429-25-ounce-mermaid/#findComment-297747 Share on other sites
