Hi all,
I’m running a Minelab GPX6000 and finding that isolating targets can be a little tricky at times. I was curious what pinpointers (if any) people are using specifically while detecting for gold. Do you rely solely on your main machine, or have you found a particular pinpointer that really helps?

Anything new in 2025 worth checking out?

Thanks in advance .... looking forward to your input.

  • The title was changed to Best Pinpointer For Gold Detecting With GPX 6000?

Given how sensitive the 6000 is, a pinpointer wont help you with a large proportion of your targets, they just aren't anywhere near sensitive enough to match your detector. Serious 6000 operators only rely on a pinpointer for deep, large targets, to minimize damage to the target and minimize the amount of dirt being dug from your hole. That being said, I used a Nokta Accupoint mostly but I really like the Fisher F Pulse too, esp in highly mineralized ground. All pinpointers will affect your detector and you'll need to move your coil well away from your hole to reduce interference.

I see in your list of Equipment a Gold Monster, it's the best pinpointer for your 6000, it came with a broomstick adapter so just go buy a wooden broomstick, cut it to size and make yourself a Mini Monster.  You can revert back to your normal shaft in a few minutes if you want to use the GM as a detector.

I put a strap on my one off an old laptop bag and I can just throw it over my shoulder.

Aside from that, the XP Mi-4 and Garett Carrott are suitable although they don't have tip sensitivity so you rely on the side of the tip.  The Sphinx 03 is the best but not readily available so makes it a no go for most.  These traditional pinpointers aren't too good for tiny gold though and the Mini Gold Monster is better for that.

The old Whites TRX is ok, has great tip sensitivity but unstable in my ground when cranked up to get that great sensitivity 🙂

That is genius.

I do love how easy it is to find gold with the Gold Monster. I often wondered if people carried both detectors into the field….Now I know.

Sgtfda, thanks for mentioning the Falcon MD20.  I’ve never tried one and don’t know how much depth from the probe into soil or rock it has.  It would be a very good high grader though.  I have a friend who’s now working an old mine.  He just uses a GB2 for that.

Bill it operates like anultra sensitive pinpointer. If you run it over a gold bag you pick up every speck of gold. I have the md10 and it's good for 2 1/2" on a big target. A speck almost touching. If you look close at the top of the probe you can see where I adjust the copper ring near the red line. I bought it 20 years ago. The probe fits on PC  pipe if you need length. I needed it for searching under ledges for gold bars. Now for testing rocks for gold.IMG_20250529_093905953.thumb.jpg.aea1efbf13e6b89468d60c36e6ad2789.jpg

I use a Whites trx and have not been overly impressed. Had a Garrett Carrot back in the day that was good for park hunts etc.

I am interested in something new and as I am gearing up for some nugget hunting this summer I am keeping an eye on this thread to point me in the right direction.

I can't seem to get the trx to change sens. I start it up, keep holding the button until it beeps twice and then try to change the sens. but doesn't seem to work as advertised.... I don't have confidence in what level of sens. I am ever actually running. maybe thats why I also give it an "its ok" rating
