Popular Post Steve Herschbach
I have long resisted the idea of creating a bunch of subforums for various reasons, the main one being things just getting spread out too much. There is also the idea that some things are hot subjects for a time, but eventually go dead, and the subforum with it. However, these forums were originally conceived of as a source of information. Information is no good if you can't find it. There is a wealth of information here now in old threads, but it was hard to find all being lumped in a few forums. I have therefore embarked on creating new sub forums for any subject where there is at least three pages or more of existing threads, meaning the new forums come already packed with content. The main thing now is that if you want information on the GPZ 7000, it all eventually ends up on the Minelab GPZ 7000 Forum. This also makes the forum search function work much better. By default the search bar only searches in the forum you are in, not the entire website. So doing a search while on the GPZ 7000 forum will by default only search that subforum, helping weed out extraneous results. If you do want to search everywhere, you have to set that option in the search bar. Since there are people who want to know what is going on everywhere, I have made the forum Unread Content link more obvious by creating a new link to it right at the top of the main forum listing. Look for Detector Prospector New Posts. Many people already use this as a home page, but it was under the Advanced Search options and other people never knew it existed. It's fully customizable to your tastes. Finally, you all do not need to do anything new. I monitor the forum daily. I corral new threads to these locations if they are not already there. If you post something elsewhere I may let the subject ride until it fades, then move it. Or I may move it immediately, but I always leave a link to the new location. That does not mean anybody did anything wrong, just me doing housekeeping. Long story go on doing what you do, but also do be aware that there are now many new forums where all the information on certain detectors or series of detectors has been collected together for easier perusal. Thanks, and have a great weekend. 26 12 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28593-new-subforums/ Share on other sites

phrunt
With the search Showing results for 'ctx 3030'. - DetectorProspector.com Sadly, not much discussion on the CTX 3030 these days, although it's a brilliant detector, one of my absolute favourites. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28593-new-subforums/#findComment-298498 Share on other sites
mn90403
As a current offering from Minelab would it be good to have its own subforum like the others? I certainly posted a lot when I was using it. 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28593-new-subforums/#findComment-298500 Share on other sites
phrunt
It's a lot of work with the sub forums, things take time, Steve's been at it real hard lately, changes are happening but the work in each step is huge. 4 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28593-new-subforums/#findComment-298501 Share on other sites
Steve Herschbach
9 hours ago, mn90403 said: CTX-3030. Where would I find posts about this? They are all on the Other Minelab Detectors & Subjects Forum. It's not like they are hiding. You have always been able to find them more quickly using the Minelab CXT 3030 tag from the Tag List. Which unfortunately even some long time members of the forum have often not learned to use. It's not all that obvious, I get that. The CTX is one that I have left to create a new forum for but as Simon notes these things take hours of somewhat tedious work on my part and I have not got around to that one yet. I'll bump it to the top of my list though as next one to do, so probably will have done by tomorrow. But yes, they have always been there and tagged all along, something I have made sure to do on almost every post for 13 years, since the people posting almost never tag their own threads. It's why I finally decided to go with the new forums as actually being less work in the long run. I'll not bother tagging most new threads going forward that fall into one of the new forum categories. The tags did pay off though in making it easier for me to find and move all the existing threads. 2 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28593-new-subforums/#findComment-298508 Share on other sites
blackflag
I really think that these sub forums are going to take Detector Prospector to the next level. I really enjoy this forum knowing that Steve doesn’t allow the nonsense that has run off a lot of contributors, that used to frequent other forums, with less than ideal moderation. Hoping for Modifications and a research/ mapping sub forum. Thanks for your hard work and great moderation. 2 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28593-new-subforums/#findComment-298515 Share on other sites
