nzt25
Hello everyone, Trying to have a mid-end gold prospecting setup on high minerlization field & hot rocks. Considering Nokta legend 6" coil (or) Xterra elite V8X coil. Any ideas which would perform better for such setup and conditions, I would've considered gold kruzer as well but don't see the community adopting it. Thanks for your time all. Steve Herschbach
I don’t see the prospecting community adopting those models either, though of the two the Legend gets the most mentions. The Gold Monster is by far the most used “not a PI” prospecting detector these days. If you are looking for a multipurpose detector as an alternative, the Equinox and Manticore are the biggies. Went from Equinox 800 to Manticore myself. But if it boils down to a choice between the two mentioned, I’d go Legend as having settings more applicable to gold prospecting. The Goldfield Mode is the one that goes completely lacking on the Elite, and that’s all I ever use with Equinox or Manticore. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28660-xterra-elite-vs-nokta-legend-for-gold-prospecting/#findComment-298858 Share on other sites
Coffeeguyzz
Nzt, I bought a Legend awhile back primarily for the purpose of having a VLF with its discrimination/ID features while prospecting. In Steve's linked post above, Jeff Mac's settings have proven optimal - in my experience - BUT only in ground that can 'handle' it. The LG 24 and 6 inch coils are great in rough terrain, but in the serpentine and limonite areas in which I mainly hunt, only a PI seems to be workable. While my recent purchase of the Axiom has enabled me to feel confident detecting in this environment, the 13 inch DD coil has become my 'go to' coil due to the hotness of the ground. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28660-xterra-elite-vs-nokta-legend-for-gold-prospecting/#findComment-298893 Share on other sites

Jeff McClendon
I would pick the Legend over the Elite for the reason Steve mentioned. I hunted a lot with the XT 705 which had a decent gold prospecting mode. However I would pick the Elite running a slightly modified Park 2 or Field 2 Multi using VCO Depth tones and one of its compatible smaller coils over the 705 all day, everyday. Multi IQ with a high frequency around 40 kHz in those two modes is just better for ground handling and sensitivity to smaller gold. 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28660-xterra-elite-vs-nokta-legend-for-gold-prospecting/#findComment-301361 Share on other sites

You can also put a small coil on this detector and get better results in "prospecting" mode than the Elite. Jeff McClendon
I know of four smaller “official” 18.75kHz coils for the 705 that I would use. There maybe more unsanctioned small 18.75” coils from Eastern European makers that I haven’t used. The Elite also has four smaller coils that it can use for gold prospecting: V8,V10, Equinox 6” and Coiltek 10x5”. I’m not going to argue with you about this off topic subject anymore.
