Popular Post UT Dave
Found in the closest gang park to where I live. I tend to classify parks around me in three categories, clean, hobo, and gang. Hobo and gang parks are loaded with beer associated trash. Hobo parks are also loaded with clad, but the zincs in the bedding areas are unbearable. Clean parks and gang parks are the best for jewelry. I'm super comfortable going into gang parks and they are pretty consistent for jewelry. So, anyway... Got a really solid 23 on the Manticore. Usually aluminum trash, but when it's that solid and round I always need to see. This one was a ring, looked like silver and felt heavy. But knew a 23 wasn't silver. Was stamped but I couldn't read it until I got home and used magnification. Hoping white gold. But palladium. Along with a local custom jewelers hallmark. Looks to me like the stones were intentionally removed. And I didn't know boo about palladium. But looked it up and was very pleasantly surprised to see it's at about $1060 an ounce and this is a hair over 4 grams. Good short after work gang park outing! - Dave 15 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28666-first-palladium/ Share on other sites
Joe D.
Nice find; sketchy area!😵🙏 My thought process is it was possibly stolen, and they thought it was junk metal; not ever hearing of palladium , if they even bothered to look! And just removed the stones! Now platinum, gold, and silver, most are familiar with!🍀👍👍 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28666-first-palladium/#findComment-298914 Share on other sites
Joe Beechnut OBN
Very Nice!! I've found two made of PD over the years, first was a toe ring and the second was a couples from Europe? The husbands ring was lost while they were on vacation at the beach. Not as shiny as yours, more of a duller finish. I think its a great find, be interesting to see what you get for it, from what I've heard some of those metals the refineries only pay 80%, were as gold they pay 95%.. Good Luck..Kool find! 3 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28666-first-palladium/#findComment-298921 Share on other sites

1491
Congrats on the big hunk of palladium! Years ago, I was detecting such a park, when the FBI showed up (their jackets said FBI) and started arresting multiple BBQ participants. I figured it was the safest place to detect at that moment. 2 2 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28666-first-palladium/#findComment-298945 Share on other sites
GB_Amateur
Great find, Dave! Pd is one of the six platinum group metals, possibly the least valuable (being the most common) of those but still quite valuable as you note. I think it's the only one besides platinum itself that is used in jewelry. Pretty sure these metals 'hang out' together so for anyone fortunate to find a platinum group nugget in the wild it likely has other(s) mixed in -- similar to how natural gold is usually alloyed with its 'neighbors' such as silver or copper. 40+ years ago I got a silver-palladium alloy crown (and I still have it). Recently I told my (young) dentist about it and he had never heard of Pd being used in dentistry, so I guess it was a short-lived treatment. Back then Pd was ballpark $250-300/ozt if my memory serves me, about half the price of gold at that time. 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28666-first-palladium/#findComment-298947 Share on other sites
