  • The title was changed to Manticore Strikes Again

That token is really neat. Good detail also.

Great find RR! Love your posts. Sure wish we had that arrangement for old stuff here. 🤔

That "Token" may be older than you think Rivers Rat. I was born on Canvey Island in the mouth of the Thames Estuary (came to Oz with my family when I was seven). I spent a couple of icy cold winters with my dad fishing in the Thames estuary for Cod. You've probably found some of our homemade spoon sinkers from the 1960's, and wire fishing traces and booms made from the tops of potato sacks. In the Benfleet creek mud there they once found the remains of a Viking ship, apparently part of the Battle of Benfleet in 894AD, between the Saxons (my ancestors) and the Vikings (the other English people from up North as my late father would say 😄). It's a cracker of a find and I'd love to know what the museum makes of it.

Well, that's what I like about this forum. It has forced me to learn something new. It does indeed look like a 13th century token.

I don't mind slow days in the shop when I get to research stuff online. I had never heard of them before I did a google image search. Apparently they were often made of pewter, and yours looks very similar to the Winetavern Street type tokens.

Edit: I found the ring too. It looks like it's from the top of a Monkey 47 Gin bottle from around the cork. Apparently people do wear them as rings.
