  • The title was changed to Longer Water Hunt With Manticore And D2 V3.04

Great hunt........bottle-caps trace all over the place so you'll ignore these soon enough. I find coins and rings are nearly always on the centre line (even at depth) unless there's another target under the coil. Apart from the 22 casings, in time, you will ignore those other junk targets 👍

Now I have to say this is based on white coral sands which give very accurate ID and amazing depth.

Thanks Tony,

The sands are good here as well, not much mineralization albeit rough at this beach. My other one is all white sand. IDs don't really change.

The .22 shorts are all over the place, I've probably dug 100 or more over the years, and they keep coming up. 🙄

Very cool coin! Congrats on the rings and staying cool!

Thanks 1491,

There were a couple breaks where I sat in my truck and drank a whole bottle of water in the AC, got a bit dizzy so I stopped for a bit. Water hunting is a lot more strenuous! We're having a monster heat wave this week. 🥵

I always seem to find crazy coins at that place.

Water hunting in the heat is great if you can dunk under and cool down......I wear a wetsuit in the summer as I usually start around 3am but it can be a 100F by 7am.....flush the suit with cool water and you're good to go for another 30 minutes. That photo shows some very calm water...are you hunting open ocean or a bay, inlet?

Joe could be lurking nearby with a Manticore so watch out 😁

It's a river. Big one in Northern Virginia. Very few times but often enough at slack tide it's placid, but it changes rapidly if there's any wind. I've seen 4-6 foot waves in it. I used to travel on it in my boat, but it has a temper. Sold the boat and got into RV'ing.

Right now I can't dunk, so water waist deep is my limit. Probably another few weeks until the incision is healed. 🙂

Might have to pack some cold beers under whatever you are wearing....works for me.

I just read about the tragedy on Lake Tahoe.......shocking news. Wind fetch is the problem on big open water.
