Last night I went out on a low tide.  We've had some swell and a bit of afternoon seabreeze so I thought I would hit a likely beach.  I also decided to reset my computer and try some different setting.  The settings I wanted to try come from here:  Mental Metal Detecting

The directions were easy to follow so I headed out to my beach.  Before I got there I needed to go across a large amount of dry sand and repair the headphones.  This proved to be more difficult than I thought.  It took about 10 tries but then I was good to go.  This is a much different sound that what I have used.  Normal was a big adjustment but I was willing to give it a try and I was surprised by some dry sand coins!  So far so good.  One sound that came out was a small, high pitch and it was a deep quarter.  Good.

I got to the wet sand, and it was no longer a learning curve.  I couldn't hear anything stand out.  I went to the wet and went to the damp and finally hear one small target when turned out to be a penny.  Part of the problem I discovered later was that my patch was not in its normal spot.  There just weren't many targets but those that were there were hard to pick out.  I stayed in Beach Low and tried the other sounds but finally had to give up and go to Prospecting and Wet.  This let me get my mind around the beach and begin to hunt.

These aren't exactly the Dankowski settings but close I'd say.  I didn't remember them but when I go out tonight I will have it which as it turns out is not as difficult as I thought to remember.

The beach turned out to be a short beach rather than a long beach.  What do I mean by this?  Well, if I'm going perpendicular to the surf, I call this a short beach.  If I'm going parallel to the surf, I consider this to be a long beach.  I tried both but the short beach was more productive last night.  I found targets up and down the slope in a relatively small patch.  I tried to look at my dig holes and extend the beach to make it long but it just didn't continue.  Twenty or thirty yards on either side of the patch there was nothing.  I mapped the patch with gridding and going back over some of the dig holes again.  Its surprising what I missed.

This patch had lots of quarters and few pennies.  When I hit a quarter patch I think rings will follow.  The difference with these quarters was that they were not very corroded.  They were deep (over 10 inches) but pretty smooth.  Also in this mix were these screws and steel that I find in this location.  Normally the coins were not mixed but last night they were.  After I worked the discovered patch until it ran out to the north I then went back to where I started the grid and went to the south.  It was then after a couple of ups and downs that I found the chain!

It looked pretty nice in my night light off my cap.  It had a good color to the cross but the chain didn't quite have the feel or color but it was better than the other things I was finding.  I thought I had some precious metal.

I've already checked and no precious metals were used in the making of this chain and cross.  The chain is slightly magnetic so I knew before getting the gun results but I thought there was a chance of the cross.  It is mostly zinc.

I have a picture to post but I always run into the storage path problems.  Not all of my pictures backed up or were loaded to Google Photos which is the way it normally works.  Then I ran down the Bluetooth Rabit hole to try and grab the photo that way and then with a cable ... now I think I have to reboot and try from scratch.  Computers and devices are very productive at times and very much a waste of time too.

Shame about the cross but it does really look nice. Also looks like you have an interesting token or medal next to it.

It's always a good feeling for me with modern change to get at least one of each coin, I feel that tells me the settings I am using  are ok for the hunt. I have been using Freestyle and Dankowski from the start, so far I don't see a need to change, but I'm glad to see someone experimenting. 🏆 Every time I try another beach program I find it less stable than Beach Surf and Seawater. 🤷‍♂️

I have used one tone (which is really 2) sometimes, it's easy to switch back and forth with 5 Region All and One. I leave recovery on 6 and crank the sensitivity to 30 sometimes, always with Enhanced Audio to get the chatter in the background.

Mental Metal mentions on his page that he finds the Manticore edges out the Deus 2 for gold, and I'm inclined to agree, but I still bring more trash back after using the Manticore, and I've definitely found a good share of gold rings with the Deus. 🤔

Odd that you have a pairing issue with headphones on the Manticore, I always turn the headphones on first, and to pair I hold the buttons in until I get the tone for pairing headphones first, they always pair in a few seconds no matter what. 🤔 I switch between the 105s, Killer B, and my "Frankenphonez". It's time to start using the bone conduction, in 90+ weather the over ear phones are a fast path to heat stroke 🥵

I've never used a computer to post, all my posts come straight from my Galaxy Z-Flip. This forum is easy on that phone, and lately I've been resizing all my pix to help out with forum storage. 🤔

Thanks for the info.  I'm not normally as detailed but without the kids here I thought I capture the event with more words this time.  

The pairing for the Manti is much simpler than for the 800.  It was just a lesson that not everything works so easily every time.

Last night I hit a couple of other beaches.

Beach 1 is a beach I go to that once in a while is just right for gold.  Most of the time it is not very good for anything.  Last night had more targets than usual.

Beach 2 is a beach I go to that is a bit of an odd duck with the sand being much coarser than my other beaches.  Last night it produced this nice 8.1 g Moonstone silver ring.  I think I've found one many years ago but this is the first from a beach that was known about 100 years ago for the Moonstones themselves.  I don't think this one is that old.

Manticore is a great machine with plenty of scope. Difficult to get it wrong!
