Terry Soloman
I had this made by Steve Wandt, in 2017. All of the gold was mined by me drywashing and nuggetshooting in Arizona (Weaver; LSD; Gold Basin). A Solid 31-grams. The nuggets were found on Rich Hill, near Stanton, AZ. They are 22k. The body of the ring is 18k and SOLID. I need to help out one of my grandchildren. I'm looking for any offer over $3,300.00 5 1 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28816-for-sale-18k-with-22k-nuggets-one-of-a-kind-claddagh-ring-31-grams/ Share on other sites

TheDeepseeker
Terry, I have to ask as I'm fascinated with the processes involved in making something like that. Was the blue and orange/brown version shown in the pics a wax original that was then sacrificed using the lost wax process? The final product is quite stunning. Terry Soloman
That is the wax mold that Steve pours the molten gold into - I think. He is a master gold craftsman, and retired Special Forces operator. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28816-for-sale-18k-with-22k-nuggets-one-of-a-kind-claddagh-ring-31-grams/#findComment-300117 Share on other sites

I pretty sure that wax piece is used to make a mold, once the mold hardens you heat it up and the wax melts leaving the shape of the ring inside, then molten gold is poured into the mold to create the ring, after that you do the finishing touches to the ring. 5 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28816-for-sale-18k-with-22k-nuggets-one-of-a-kind-claddagh-ring-31-grams/#findComment-300124 Share on other sites

Yes, that's known as the lost wax process. Also used for making some rifle sights and racing bicycle frame tubing fittings among other things. I didn't know that jewellers also used it for making rings, but that makes sense I guess. 1 Link to comment https://www.detectorprospector.com/topic/28816-for-sale-18k-with-22k-nuggets-one-of-a-kind-claddagh-ring-31-grams/#findComment-300167 Share on other sites
