Dropping Sand

A small & unimportant looking part of the beach, often silty with plenty of mud. But today it was marginally different with a few yards near the top down several inches, just enough to be able to detect. The downside is the quite large rocks requiring the ever favourite M8 coil to get in amongst it.

Besides the few pieces of iron, it was really clean. There's very little modern rubbish here, very little modern anything - my preference.

I found this a really interesting trip for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it doesn't  get opened up much at all & I like that, good possibilities. Secondly, unlike my normal hunting with big iron & the m8/9, I could really push the detector way over that normal use.

Not easy detecting because of the rock situation & having to continually lever out blocks to get underneath to the targets. One of the early finds was the impressively large 1920's brooch sat on the surface washed out, that was the only surface find. Reduced the top ferrous to 3, sens at 25 & recovery on 4, probing in & out of the rocks carefully picking up quite a lot of coins & other bits. Another old brooch giving a really low signal which I thought was base metal, later cleaned up as silver. Its very thin, fragile bar brooch from before 1900 typically.

Numbers of signals in general were really good, therefore I made a second trip back yesterday. Things had changed slightly some of the rocks were now covered with sand & silt, but a blackish area was exposed. I circled around this for three hours with plenty of digging. Surprisingly, a relatively modern silver ring turned up - very welcome. Always happy to dig plenty of brass, lead & copper targets no matter what they are. Coins were heavily worn showing intense abrasion in their life, dating from 1890's to 1950's. One silver 3 pence (same size as US 3c) stuck under a ledge was the only silver coin in the two trips. The large rounded iron piece in the pan actually has a coin embedded in it, always pays to check carefully.

I have complete & total confidence in the Manti after the last two odd years of use. Running the M8 hot over normal settings showed the little coil has plenty of poke, its my favourite I admit. One of the keys to consistent results is careful disciplined searching. even so its still very easy to miss signals in some hard conditions. If the spot shows again it would be worth pursuing.

Starting to pick up with the kids out of school so the parents can go on vacation. I got a 14k signet ring last week to break my gold drought. Went Monday but the water was too rough to water hunt. Relegated to the sand/aluminum turf. 😒

A "finds rich" hunt stupot  ! WTG 

I'd go back for possible "rich finds" cuz ya never know what you're gonna get next . Beaches really are a lot like a box of chocolates  !
