All Night Long 7 Rings!

Last night was a good night for detecting.  I know because when I started there were at least 5 other detectorists out on the beach.  It started a bit slow with the Manticore/11 so I headed away from the pack to find a patch.  It was going to be a long trip, close to 3 miles one way but I wasn't doing anything else so off I went.  (I went at least 8 miles by the end of the night.) When you go that far on a beach and back you can't spend a lot of time on the short beach gridding.  I had to find a patch or pattern.  The tide was on the way out so I used the surf setting on 24 and did a little curve until I would find something then I would expand the area with a circle or long grid.

After about 3/4 of a mile I finally found a ring.  It was deep (9") and it is the silver/onyx 5.9g ring next to the silver.  I knew I was on my way.  To this point there had not been many targets.  I kept up with the pattern.  I was starting to find a few coins which slowed me down and at one point I looked at the screen and I clearly saw two targets.  On my swing one was 43 and the other was 62.  I guessed one of them was a penny but what was the other one?

It turned out to be a Thai coin.  The separation was very good as both were on the line.

I kept walking and came across more 'penny sounds' that I tried to ignore but couldn't.  One was the bent 'gold' ring that is really 2.2 grams of copper.  Ring #2.  A little bit later I heard a scratchy sound and it was the 12.5g flower bracelet.  (I don't know the metal.)  It was also down about 7".  Near this was another chain which is the 1.4g copper chain.  Just before this I had found a patch of steel balls.  There are several of them around and I've found them on other hunts as well.  They come in at 34 red.

By this time I had made it to the 'end' of my one way direction and I knew this could be a patch area.  I was rewarded and stuck around and found the heave silver (unmarked) handmade ring which is 19.8g.  It had lots of different sounds.  About the same time I found a 'gold looking' ring which I now know to be 5.6g of something.  I'll have to find out what.

It was time to head back.  I was running out of power.  My plan was to get my 800 and go back to the patch.

I made it back and had to get my 800/15.  After a snack and a drive I was back on the beach again.  I found one love trinket of about 2.5g and then the coil ears snapped off of the 15" coil.  Oh my goodness.  My 11 in coil has already been repaired with a yoke and now this one.  I couldn't finish digging the target.  I knew there was jewelry on this beach.  I had to drive back and get my 800/11.  About an hour later I was back where the coil broke, and I finished digging the target.  There still wasn't anyone on my patch so I determined I'd stay on the incoming tide.  I've found lots of stuff with the 800 on this same beach.  It took me a bit to get the hearing back now for the 800 but I was on it.  I actually think the Manticore has made me better with the 800.

Now I was finding a bit more quality.  I found a 14k MC SK 1.4g heart ring.  Then a bit later I found a S925 22751 D1.00ct d0.48ct ring.  Then one of my penny sounds was the totally fake ring with stone face 5.6g.  A more unusual find is the swirl earring which is 9.2g.  I think it is silver but I have to get it checked.  The pin is magnetic.  So now I had found 3 rings with the 800 and that little silver, turquoise 2.9g piece.  Toss in another butterfly chain and a few coins along the way and I was done!

The sun was coming up with the tide and it was time to call it a night.

I put all the jewelry in a couple of pictures and turned over the silver ring.  Someone has very small fingers for that ring.

That's a great night! It's been hit or miss here up north of you. Some beaches giveth but most just keeping it. I hope your round 2 nets 7 more all gold!

Great hunt M with lots of cool finds! That big silver ring is most unusual and looks like it would be uncomfortable to wear. That 5.6 gram "gold looking ring" looks great in the picture and I hope it's the real deal. Those coins look like the ones I found recently and I don't think that they are fresh drops. This current swell moved a little bit of sand I believe.

Great hunt. That's some determination, having two machines fail on you in one night... 🫤 

If you aren't going to submerge the machine more than the lower, get yourself a Power Delivery battery, and bungee it and the charging cable under the arm cuff. Put it in a Ziploc if it's splashy. The Manticore will run a good long time with such a rig, possibly double the run time.

Get power delivery because it's more capable of keeping the detector going while charging. You really won't notice the extra weight unless it's a big power bank, and it counterbalances the coil. Make sure you clean all charging contacts when you get home, salt spray will corrode them fast.
