Has anyone dried and resealed a leaker NOX 800? It may have leaked through the speaker or (as usual)  the handle.

I've heard a few instances where they just dry themselves out, especially if you pop the battery and come to life without any major intervention but you wouldn't want to try that with salt water as they're a ticking time bomb then.

This guy's Manticore leaked too and I believe kept working at least for a while, a real gamble though, and I think once they've leaked, they are best retired from water use rather than attempting a reseal.

If you're willing to risk it let us know how you go with the reseal, I've not heard of anyone successfully taking that on as they are always too scared to go back into the water after a leak.

Thanka for your reply, Phrunt.  Ya I've had both of em leak, but the convulsions are becoming further apart...

The NOX is just so good in the water I would hate to land lock it --hoping the dealers bench guy has seen enough of these to pin down the ingress. That whole Shoe Goo or silacone mess thing might also be an alternative but that assumes the leak is through  the handle.  I can say  one thing  for sure--these detectors make you crazy...

Best Regards

Oh man!!😵‍💫 I'm getting Nox PTDD flashbacks from that last picture! I am not gonna be a happy🤬 camper, if my Manti does that; warranty or not! Let's hope the ML engineers didn't make the same mistake a second time! They should have pinned down the cause long ago, or relinquish any waterproof claims going forward, and drop the prices in kind, as that is one of it's primary selling points!🍀👍👍

Called the factory and it turns out that these units are so  well  made that theres never a need to actually open one lol.

I  was also fed the "pet statistic' that only 1% leak.  Now this has to be skewed in that only a small  percentage are taken in the water to  leak  in the  first place.  Ive had 4 myself--some within weeks.  In that I've had the Manti for almost 3 years--this one had been  in the water about four or five times.

I will try  the water bottle test and see where the ingress is--maybe some Shoe Goo...?  Works on everything else...

Even having found a lot of stuff with this device model I can only conclude that because reliability is so important to the serious hunter--its been a dissapointment overall.  Ive also  heard good things about the performance of the 900 but there's no way I would buy one now. To keep me from a high performance detector there has to be something seriously wrong--and  there is.  A responsible company  would sing whatever improvements they have made from the rooftops.  All I've seen  so far is "deny,  deny,  deny."  '

I know guys who designed and produced  a leak proof  detector (the Anchor Electronics  Baraccuda) from a shed.  Why can't Minelab?

1% is a very high percentage, 1 in 100 when how many actually hit the water at all? Makes you wonder what the % would be of the water hunters that use it all the time in the water.  I was hoping they had resolved it with the new housing on the 900/Manticore but the leakers are slowly showing their faces.  It sounds like they've improved it but not resolved it entirely, it must be hard to make a truly waterproof detector in a standard looking housing.  The Seaghost people had the right idea with their external clear case over the pod, I remember doing that with cameras back in the day, bought one specifically for snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia for my Canon camera, worked well.

It'd be good if they released a seaghost like device for people to put over their detector for that extra security for regular water users and just sell it as an accessory, lots would buy it as extra security, even under warranty nobody wants the downtime and hassle of a leaker.

Mabye if the guy I spoke with handn't been such a slick talker with a rote lost of "blame the victim" things I probably did to case the leak (4 times?) it would not bother me.  But  its a classic "company line." of half  truths  that pass for the truth.  That the NOX leaks is common knowledge. Im also in my second Manti brain--just hate to fly four hours to hunt  with a detector that isnt rock solid.  At least now I won't have two of  them.

I bought the Manticore mostly for freshwater lake detecting after my Equinox leaked. I don't dive with it but submerge the control box frequently when wading out to chest deep water.  If my Manticore were to leak my only consolation would be that it already paid for itself. By contrast, I hunted in lakes for "decades" with my "used" Fisher 1280x without a single leak and that machine paid for itself dozens of times what it cost me.

I'll continue to hunt in the water with the Manticore and hope for the best. If it leaks I will be done with Minelab and go in a different direction.

Good call, Compass.  As consumers we have to lay down the line sometimes--especially when they  are more or less  in denial.
