Yesterday I started disassembling the detector's coil to give it a proper cleaning, since I've been using it for several days at the beach. I've had a reinforcement on it since I bought it to prevent the lugs from breaking, and to my surprise, upon removing the reinforcement, I saw one of the lugs was broken. Looking at the purchase invoice, it was two years ago in April, I don't know if the warranty will be covered. I've already sent an email to technical support in Ireland. I'm waiting for a response, but they probably won't be responsible.

  • The title was changed to Broken Ear Coil 15

It has a 3-year warranty, they'll cover it.  Minelab warranty is very good.

I don't think the coil ear protectors do much at all unless they're glued on to become one with the ears, which then voids warranty.

I hope you're right, Simon. I understand that the coils only have a two-year warranty.

I emailed Minelab Ireland and they responded very quickly, directing me to contact technical support in France. I emailed them this morning and haven't received a reply yet. August is a very bad time due to the holidays.

I asked Minelab Ireland if they were on vacation at the technical service in France, and they said no, that they would send the emails directly to them. That was on Wednesday, and as of today, I still haven't received a response, apart from the email I sent them on Tuesday. I'll have to wait another week, but it doesn't seem normal to me.

Technical support contacted me today. They sent me a form to fill out, which also includes what the warranty covers. It comes with a three-year warranty on the coils. They're asking me to send it to them for evaluation. I hope there's no problem.

They'll replace your coil. It's broken, it's within the warranty period. They replaced 800 coil under warranty years ago. That said, I had one of those so-called “coil ear protectors” on my coil when it broke. Save your money. Do the Gigmaster fix and, if done right, your coil ears will be good to go for as long as you own the machine. Here's the link:

I did this fix on the replacement coil years ago and it's still rock solid. Also, do not over tighten your coil bolt.
