Great patch!  A lot of brush cover.  Imagine what’s underneath all that brush?

If you could clear some and give it a go! Dozer isn’t needed, just a root rake on a small loader would do nicely.  It’ll grow back, probably burns every decade or two from lighting.  I’ve seen people clear brush in Nevada with a tractor and in a few years it’s back.  Can’t even tell if it was cleared.

  • The title was changed to Have Never Seen These Guys

These guys are originally Victorian and they've been detecting the Pilbara for decades now. I reckon they still travel there each Winter (its one of the hottest places on Earth during Summer) rather than live there. They have also had huge success here in Vic as well, incl a couple very large nuggets that Ive seen personally.

That 'brush' is called spinifex. Its often burned off (its highly combustible) to clear an area, although the stuff frequently burns out of control in a strong wind. The spines can easily penetrate your skin and cause infections. Dunno how they dont wear gators....

Yep, heaps of illegal burns up there every year. I remember a tour operator did a burn a bunch of years ago and it ripped through thier camp and took out a guests van and 4 wheel drive.

If anyone is interested, that’s a Titan attachments root rake.  I bought it for my daughter’s tractor so she could clear brush for horse corals and riding arena.  Weighs about 370 lbs.  I paid $450 with free delivery but it’s gone up in price like  everything else.  Good for fire break and prevention.  Works great, better than the bucket!  👍

Comparing my detecting outfit with these guys, Maybe the reason why I don't find big gold in Oz.

No Hat but Legionaries cap with Flaps that wrap around my face so virtually you can only see my eyes. Flap goes down to shoulders

Flynet of course.

Sun Glasses, Clear safety glasses late afternoon or early morning.

Long sleeve shirt button up to the neck. ( Sun cancer checks every 6 months)

Riggers gloves.

Long leg Jeans

Gaiters If its warm and sunny

Boots with elastic sides.

Im with you Peter, us old buggers think protection and safety. No way in a million years would I go detecting in shorts! Ive hit death Adders with my coil twice and trod on a young Dugite snake so Gaiters have become a 'given' in the outback, let alone the Spinifex! Good hat, long sleeve shirt, cargo pants, boots n gloves. Ya gotta protect what ya got...
