Hello.

I enjoy coming to this place and knowing I'll meet friends I've never met in person before.

I like reading here and getting information about equipment. I also enjoy reading the many reports, some of which are truly adventure-like.

I enjoy coming here, reading about the nice people here, occasionally adding my two cents, and relaxing.

Many thanks to all the forum members.

And a huge thank you to Steve Herschbach, who runs this forum so well. Thank you so much.

And thank you for allowing me to be a member here.

Agreed Locator, there’s a lot to this hobby.  For me it’s become a break from the world of trouble we live in.  When you’re focused on what is being said here , researching or you’re in the field those other subjects are gone, out of sight and out of mind.  I’ll admit I can be one of the worst at wandering off our subject here.  I’ve learned a lot here.  One of those things I’m learning is to stay the course and not go to far off the subject of our passion, hobby, business of detecting, prospecting and reasonably relevant and related subjects.  Even if it takes a hard rebuke from Steve or getting a subject LOCKED.  I tell myself it’s for the better and the world of trouble outside of this enjoyable site will always be there.  This site might not be.  It’s made it this far for a reason.  🤙.

I want to thank Steve for running a website that stays focused on the topic, not letting others drag their drama in for all of us to deal with when all we come here to further our knowledge of metal detecting and detectors.

These other so call metal detecting websites work to hard to appeal to everybody, not just detectorists, I come here for detector/detecing information from like minded people, not to discuss politics, bbq, pets etc.....

Don't give up on us Steve, boot the people that need booting, but if you get tired and quit, you have a worldwide audience that will be left in the darkness.......

100% agreed. Steve provides the best forum on our topics anywhere....end of discussion. Zero drama and fairness is all that we ask. The fact that we get that, without fail, every time is a testament to Steve's character. Bravo!

Just to pile on with the Thank You's.

I appreciate the effort, the time, the toll of keeping up a place like this.

And...  I understand and commiserate with wanting to just pull back from active posting.  I'm on the BoD of the largest forum of it's kind on the internet (predator hunting).  As a legit non profit, there are no "owners".  But the BoD is as close as it comes.  My profile was very high before becoming part of the Board or Directors.  It skyrocketed after.  And I have almost entirely quit posting on the site because of that.  The bottom feeders and drama junkies try to latch on to any stray word I post and I'm just sick of it.  So I don't post anymore.

All that to say, I get it.  And I support you.

But I have to add...  Your unique insights, advice, and general commentary I will sorely miss.

This is the only forum that I view. Every morning with my cup of coffee and every evening after work. I haven't been out prospecting in quite some time but this forum gives me the little opportunity to keep up with the hobby until I have the time again to get out prospecting.

I truly appreciate the effort you Steve put into this for us to enjoy and learn.

50 years ago I got into a hobby/avocation/passion (not metal detecting) which I don't care to elaborate on other than to use as an example here.  It was a hot activity participated in by into the millions in the USA alone.  It was sort of a wild west atmosphere with a range of truly nice people infused with, unfortunately, quite a few a-holes.  After about 7 year's involvement I dropped out for 10 years and when I came back I was amazed at the change.  Most of the jerks were gone and the attitude was one of helping each other learn and enjoy.  After a while I figured out why -- because the top performers had become altruistic towards lesser (in terms of skill) practitioners.  Lead by example and the masses will follow.

I've only 'belonged' (err, participated in) one metal detecting forum.  I got into this hobby in June 2015 and right off wanted to buy a good detector for gold hunting.  I bought a couple books on Amazon which were well intentioned, but even at my novice level surmised they weren't expertly written.  I found Steve's review of gold detectors by searching the internet.  It was all I had hoped for, and much more.  I joined this forum later that year and felt nothing but welcome from day 1.  And just like my previous hobby, the leader here led by example.  Now someone asks for help and the replies are numerous, from multiple sources.  We all know who to thank for that.

Same here, Steve's description of the Gold Bug Pro as a gold detector that was also handy as an all-rounder prompted me to buy one.. I didn't have much luck with it on my local beaches as it didn't like the salt water and black sand too much.. So I returned to Steve's forum for another go at finding the perfect detector for my needs.. After reading his description of the Equinox 800 I again bought one straight away and since then prospecting/metal detecting has become a bit of an obsession.. I've started to see the world through the eyes of a metal detectorist, constantly wondering if there's any gold underfoot or where the tourist have lost their jewellery or coins.. Steve's forum not just continues to inspire me but also my son, even the next generation learns from the advice and experience found here.. As a measure, when our kids or grandkids rave on about it, Steve's forum has become truly legendary!
