  • The title was changed to New Addition To My Compass Collection

Bill... I think it was in 1989 I designed and created the full-page color ads for the Compass XP-Pro, Gold Scanner and X-100 / Coin Scanner. George Payne had a hand in the design of the Scanner series. Needless to say, but they worked quite well. I'm sure Steve H. probably has them archived somewhere!

Sounds about right. I had just moved to Delaware in 89 and the Compass detectors did well in the mild soil.

Gosh, Bob, you had your hands in everything back in the day!

Definately one of my most favourite older machines. Had the goldscanner and coin pro ii both brilliant, especially the gs. Pretty much last of the analogue for me from that era.

And Bob, lovely brochures, remember them well! What an era it was.

Ha ha! Yes, don't know how I had the time to hunt myself or do anything else. As I get older and slow down, I can't believe I got anything accomplished! Those were the glory days of metal detecting for sure. Today there are more people involved, the equipment has advanced, and the places to hunt and the finds are not so much! 🙂

I wish I could take credit for the catalog folks, but I cannot. I was referring only to full-page magazine ads I designed for Compass back in 1989. What I did do for the catalog was to consolidate the old Compass "needle" graphic into the existing "Compass" text logo by putting it inside the "O". Ron Mack, then president of Compass, said it was pure genius... I told him I was just being efficient! 🙂 Of all the company heads I've known and worked with in the industry, I think Ron Mack and Charles Garrett were the nicest and most sincere. I truly enjoyed helping Ron and the company as I did with all the others. Many of the presidents of these companies are now "departed". I'm truly blessed to have known and worked with them all!
