Deus 2 HF2 Coil Micro Gold Jewelry Finds

The yes or no decision to opt for the HF2 coil and try version 3.1 software here in the USA is kind of on hold for many people while they wait for HF2 coil availability. That is unfortunate for sure.

I am one of the lucky ones that got my order in really early. I did not receive any preferential treatment. I just made a quick decision and so far I am very glad I did.

I live in an area with moderate to extreme magnetite mineralization that will max out the Deus 2 mineralization meter. 

I also live in a large urban area with hundreds of public park and school playgrounds to hunt.

I wanted the HF2 coil for small nugget, wire gold and specie gold prospecting. I also wanted it for hunting sand, pea gravel and bark mulched playgrounds with metal play structures. 

I have had to deal with a prolonged illness and death in my family for most of the summer so gold prospecting with the HF2 coil has not happened. I have been able to hunt 6 local bark mulched playgrounds with metal play structures. These playgrounds get lots of use and they are also hunted regularly. 

So far I have found five pieces of micro to small sized gold jewelry with the smallest being .49 grams and the largest being right at 1 gram. Using the HF2 coil carefully, I can get right next to metal supports and still hear targets. Two of these gold targets were found that way with the targets being around 3" from big metal play structure support poles.

I am using the Sensitive program with disc at 10, the coke notch turned off, silencer and bottle caps on 0 , High Square audio, Pitch 2, sensitivity 95, max frequency 53 kHz, reactivity 2, iron volume 7, audio response 4, threshold 0. 

Tiny bits of foil that I can barely see or hit with a pinpointer are mostly giving target IDs in the low to mid 20s. Slightly larger sized aluminum foil that is easier to see and hit with my Accupoint pinpointer has target IDs from 27 to 32. All of the gold targets shown have had target IDs between 38 and 58. US coin IDs are 2 to 3 target IDs higher than normal and if those coins are near the surface/close to the coil I do hear some breaking up of the audio almost as if they are causing an overload. Just slightly raising the coil stabilizes their audio and target ID responses.

XP publicly said that the HF2 coil would not have normalized target IDs. In the past and with the FMF coils, target IDs have been normalized as if the Deus 1, ORX and Deus 2 were using 18 to 20 kHz frequency equivalent target IDs. With the HF2 coil and V3.1 software, any max frequency above 29 kHz will cause target IDs to rise a bit using 53 kHz and rise a lot using 89 kHz.

So far I’ve found 4.66 grams of very small gold jewelry at 4 of 6 play structure tot lots visited which I have hunted many times. That gold is 10 and 14K so about $290 in melt value.

With the very limited time that I have had to hunt this summer with the HF2 coil I couldn't be happier so far with the performance of this coil for micro gold jewelry hunting. Gold is definitely gold for me and right now it is very profitable even for just melt value so, I don't care what form it's in or where I hunt for it as long as I find it.

Thanks for the encouraging report Jeff, I've set aside my V3 1 HF2 rig for a bit in favor of the Deus 2 on V2 for the big beaches.

I truly love the V3 EMI handling and stability, that will make the D2 a worthy contender in some places I go. Thanks also for the settings. 🙂 I'll be giving those a go locally.

You are a very patient and determined hunter, personally I despise searching for tiny targets. The D2 is good at that even with a big coil which complicates the location.

I am just trying to use the HF2 coil and the current V3.1 software for situations where it should do well and it has.

For micro jewelry hunting, Pitch 2 hits really hard on tiny low conductors and gives plenty of tonal information even using High Square audio. From experience, if I get an audio response with numbers in the mid 30s or higher, I am definitely at least giving that target a boot scrape. 

Would I use pitch 2 in a situation with lots of non-ferrous targets under every swing.......not yet. Same for pitch 2 in thick iron trash looking for non-ferrous targets as my ears could not take that at this point.

If I was at a saltwater beach, I would use settings similar to what I described only in very dry sand with sparse to moderate target levels as a starting point.

As far as the HF2 coil using the less dramatic audio that has been on V2 software, I wouldn't hesitate to use it anywhere on land or at a fresh or saltwater beach in dry to damp sand. However, I am absolutely not submerging that coil at this point until XP gets the battery area in the lower shaft sealed properly.

This was from a recent group hunt at a local park. All targets were wild targets and some were 8" deep. I had zero issues identifying the USA modern coin targets by accurate tone and target ID information BEFORE digging them using the HF2 coil with V3.1 General program, 29 kHz max frequency, 5 tone High Square audio.

Gotcha - I have submerged the coil and as yet not had a problem. I'm kind of glad you have to take the coil and lower shaft off to charge it.

I always use some or a lot of bottle cap rejection on the dry beach or in the water, everywhere else it's not necessary. I've found plenty of tiny earrings and such, I'm curious as to why you don't use it? 🤔 Bottle cap rejection works as good as it can for me.

My mental notes from relic hunting indicate any frequency above 29kHz will raise iron objects to pure tones, especially forged or hardened stuff. At the beach it sounded off on Charcoal! 😬

I have a lot more fiddlin' to do arguably, so this is just from my foxhole so far. I'm going to my small beach tomorrow with it.

Bottle cap reject is sometimes too strong in the high magnetite mineralization. Makes small low conductors sound too iffy, or too much like iron.

Update from the original posts. Almost 14 grams of 10K and 14K micro and ring sized jewelry found with the HF2 coil using the Sensitive program with Pitch 2. The rings and hoop earring were all found close to large metal play structure poles where they were very hard to distinguish from the actual metal structure. The 14K rope chain was found next to the cement curb of a bark playground with multiple responses from rebar within the cement mixed in.

Almost 14 grams of 10 and 14k gold is well over $700 US at today's gold price. Coil is easily paid for.

Very impressive coil and audio addition in V3.1 software (Pitch 2) when using them for what they were designed to do.
