  • The title was changed to Update - I’d Like To Put In My Two Cents Worth…

Excellent stuff Ghound! 🏆

You worked hard, dug a lot of crap, but looks like the search was well worth it. You are lucky to have your soil treat those old coins so well.

Your 1883 large cent is incredible, they only made ~3 million of them so that's really cool. Lucky dog! 😅

Besides finding them, I think the most important part is you didn't nail them with your digging tool of choice; that's always a challenge/bonus in itself! Great job, and great finds! Keep it up!🍀👍👍

That's a very nice hunt.  Quantity and quality.

I can’t believe the condition of these coins myself.  I have only found a few other coins of similar age, and those took very careful cleaning to not break through the patina into the powder corrosion layer underneath.  Even then, I was only able to retrieve the date on two of the three.

I would happily dig a similarly sized pile of junk in order to find another 1800’s coin.  😁

Yeah, been there done that. Thankfully not on anything too valuable.

How many remember the technique-instructions of the 1960-70s to use a long screwdriver and plunge it into the soil over and over until you HIT the coin!   That’s how you locate your treasured rare coins!  🤣 🥴 🙄

Great finds indeed!

I remember those days well. I tried it once or twice and could never pry the coin out of the soil. Always used a hand trowel after that!
