Hi guys,

does anyone have experience with the first version of the Manticore software? I have the second version of the Manticore, but an expert user in my area confirms that the first version is much deeper, because it has a greater opening to iron even if you are forced to use a sensitivity below 20 and it is a little more complicated to manage it... But in any case he confirms that the detector is much more performing. In the current version there is the possibility of setting the stabilizer to off (0), but it still seems more filtered than the first version.

It's not deeper if you have your updated machine tuned properly.  Do a search on this forum how the new iron filters that were part of the update need to be adjusted vs. tge default settings to get best performance.

Sorry, I'm writing to you from Italy and I'm using Google Translate. I know how to use the Manticore well, I've been using Minelabs for 25 years. What I want to know is if the first version produced is better than the current second one.

Have you made any comparisons between the two?

Thanks.

Minelab added the iron stabilizer setting (0 - 12) and stabilizer filter (on/off, only works if stabilizer is active with a setting of 1 or higher) in the update.  Some users reported that this feature adversely affected depth performance in certain soil conditions compared to the original software.  Setting stabilizer to 0 (Off) resulted in restoration of depth performance to that of the original software for most users.  But it is a mixed bag.  Some saw no depth degradation with the stabiliser and filter set at the Minelab recommended default settings for each search mode.  A small minority saw depth impacts even with the stabiliser off.  Also note that the person who reported severe depth performance impacts initially in the thread discovered he likely had a corrupted update install.  After a clean install, the depth issues were not as pronounced in his soil, but he still preferred the original software because depth was not as good in his soil even with the stabiliser off.  Read through this thread IN ITS ENTIRETY for more info.

Since you can easily roll back to the original Manticore software version and since the issue seems highly dependent on local soil conditions, I recommend you do your own testing in your typical local soil conditions with both versions so you can come to your own conclusions.  I personally have not experienced depth issues with the update and am perfectly happy with how the Manticore performs with the update after using it for 2 years now. Hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your reply. In fact, my intention is to install the first software and try it personally. Obviously, the ground conditions change. Honestly, there will be advantages and disadvantages in both ways. But I prefer to manage metal detectors that are more open to iron and more "nervous". I will let you know my experience.

Great!  Yes, definitely post your experience with both versions in this thread, it will be great information for others contemplating the same question.
