I would  contact Garrett (AU) for assistance. Their customer service is above excellent.
Did you buy it used? I’m a bit confused about how it looks in the box, I hope you didn’t open it and find it in that condition.

Thanks for the reply, mate it’s brand new and that’s how it arrived from the shop. I’ve tried contacting them and no response 3 phone calls 2 emails I’m in Leonora and I’m back to panning. I’ll give Garrett a buzz and fill them in on my state of affairs next. To be fair this is my 4th Garrett machine and first problem, so the ratio is pretty good but that doesn’t really balance out my current situation I should be swinging my new machine not a bloody shovel and bucket.

Definitely a call to Garrett as mentioned .  If you have the extra battery pack and some batts you could give that a shot because it will only work when the battery is totally down and doesn't charge the unit so maybe it works as an independent secondary source? Might get you limping along until a fix? Wish you luck with the unit and the pan!

Cheers mate, but snapped handle. I’m not even unpacking it. Call to Garrett and return to sender I’d say. And no joke I really am glad I’ve got 2 buckets and my pans. Any colours I get I’ll post as well. I take a win any way I can. Cheers 👍

Looking at the information on Garrett USA’s website about international warranties, even though it’s covered for three years, they do not mention any repair facility in Australia. In Europe, people are to send theirs to the facility in Germany.

I guess if it comes down to it, as it looks like you would be responsible for shipping charges, I hope you don’t have to ship it far. Hopefully, you bought it with a credit card, so you can work with your credit company if your dealer is not willing to cooperate. Keep a good record of how many times you’re contacting the dealer, you may need that for assistance.

I had a similar issue where Minelab USA was not responding to my repair request. I contacted Minelab in Australia, and they proceeded to get the repair initiated very quickly by CC’ing the USA office in our emails. Maybe you can do the same with Garrett USA by letting them know who the dealer is and why they are not cooperating with your return request.

Good luck with that, I’m sorry you are having such a hassle with it.

Oh gosh, I just saw that post above mine, the shady dealer you bought it from sounds like a midnight swindler. You may have to go through your credit card company if you paid for it that way, I doubt that dealer is even a Garrett authorized one.

I feel sorry for you, that’s terrible and I hope it gets resolved quickly enough and you get your money back!

Edit:  you may be in luck, there is a service facility and office in Australia, and the link that was posted on my first notice was only the USA office. This may help:

But honestly, if it is so damaged as the control pod was broken off or missing,  don’t try to have it repaired under warranty, it’s a fraudulent sale and should be a legal matter.

Thanks for the reply, and assistance AU. I’ll be contacting Garrett today. I have now lodged a dispute with the credit card company as well. I am not optimistic about a repair being possible.

Thanks again
