Would like to see some of your thoughts and opinions from those of you who use the Tarsacci for old coin hunting and relic hunting

It seems a lot of guys use them on the beach but what about those of you who uses them for coin and relic hunting

How do you like it.....pros....cons....etc

I just picked the one up for sale here in the classifieds from user Kenne-Bill. He was kind enough to call and give me a little run down with his thoughts on it but he uses it for beach hunting as that is all he does.

I look around old homes and farmland myself.

Any and all input is welcome!!

  • The title was changed to Anyone Coin Shooting With The Tarsacci?

Tim,  the Tarsacci is an excellent old site machine in the right conditions.  If the ground is mineralized, and/or has bigger iron trash, it can work wonders.  If there is modern Aluminum trash or heavy small nails it can be difficult because the audio and Disc is limited.  It is not an easy machine to learn. The best thing you can do to shorten the learning curve is to get some high quality Headphones that sound right to you.  I use high ohm Killer Bs with the Garrett Z Lynk.  Makes all the difference in the world.  Dig it all till you master it.

Thanks JCR for the info. So it is better for older sites and such and not so much for modern Park hunting. That's fine by me as I do not search parks anyways.

From the videos I have watched on it, it seems to have a very similar audio sound as the AKA Sorex. More of a chime instead of tones.

I have the Sorex units and I really like the audio on it.

I will seek out a decent sort of headphones too as I have kind of moved away from the Detector pro/Killer Bee style having these modern units cordless style ones now.

I am looking forward to it very much!

The Tarsacci can be excellent at handling modern sites full of junk as well. You can pick coins out of heavy aluminum junk with ease, and even find remarkably small jewelry with it in heavy iron. Bad soil is a specialty for this machine once you learn it. Play with the salt balance and black sand settings and advance the ground balance in heavy junk. Even tuning it that way, it is still quite sensitive to small. Not micro, but quite small.

For me, the larger round coil is distinctly better than the stock coil, once i bought that coil it was all I used.  I have the Tony Eisenhower waterproof headphones on mine and love them. I seldom use this detector anymore because of its weight, but found it terrific for dozing through bad soil and trash.

As stated above, it can get noisy and the settings and sounds take a little getting used to, but it is a fine detector if you take the trouble to get comfortable with it. It can really open up sites that many hunters avoid because of junk.

Thank you for the encouragement Salone!

It seems from what I have saw that it handles rough conditions pretty well

I find it interesting that the salt adjustment setting can act as a discrimination setting too.

It seems well made also.

It does work well in junk. Really well. Takes a while to get the hang of the settings, but well worth the time to learn. The salt adjustment is very helpful in places with a lot of small foil and in turf that gets fertilized, and of course at salt beaches. Lot of water hunters are very fond of it.

The black sand setting, in addition to the obvious is also really handy for sites with a lot of small iron, think rusty Bobby pins and small nails. I have even had good luck ground balancing then adding what seems like a lot of extra (+100-+200) You read that right, when the iron is bad you can do that and still hunt nonferrous in truly obscene iron junk. There is a higher range of ground balance above the normal range that sort of starts over if you add enough, try that for fun. When the junk gets bad, you can use Tarsacci where most VLF would struggle. Sort of a bulldozer of metal detectors.

It is definitely well made. And Dimitar will answer the phone when you call the factory. You will have a blast with it BigTim. There is much more to this machine than meets the eye. Good luck to you.

Wow, I got a place right here at home that I will try it out first. I guess you can cancel out small iron through the ground settings it seems.

I have a few good units already....but it is always fun to learn how to use the ones that are not as popular but good units. I have always been that way.

I wish there was more places to look for jewelry here but the local parks when I live are off limits to detecting thanks to a bunch of bums who ruined it back in the 90s.

The black sand setting takes the edge off mineralization and small rusty stuff, the bizarre ground balance trick will deal with surprisingly large iron. When you get used to this you can hunt some pretty awful stuff. It takes a while to get the hang of it, the notion of ground balance plus a couple hundred points does not come to mind intuitively. Running past 999 and starting a new level at 500 even more so.

What is lost this way is unknown, coins and at least some jewelry will come through for sure, probably some is lost but it is hard to know. But some places can be hunted I could not hunt with VLF at all before.

Just a fun thing to try.

I may have overlooked it but coil is being used? Is Dimitar letting you  buy the Tarsacci with any coil you want are you having to buy the stock that comes with it and then buy the other?
All detector companies have a stock coil that comes with the detector and if you want a different one you buy that extra.

 Just wondering!
