Hi all.I am a new member.Live in BC,Canada.Been detecting for approx 2 years.Prefer beach detecting.I use a Equinox 900 about 1.5 years old.I mostly use the all metal mode because without it I miss a lot of Canadian coin.Around a month ago the VDI has gone crazy in all metal mode but is quiet with it off.I have tried everything to correct this...lower sensitivity, noise cancel, ground balance..etc.Nothing works.

With the All metal mode off I can run the sensitivity top high and no VDI but then I miss a lot of Canadian coins. How to correct this issue,,please.

Definitely do the factor reset. If that doesn't help, then the places you are hunting have some low frequency EMI in the iron/small foil range. If you have that problem again, see what the numbers are and reject them unless they are the same ferrous numbers that you need to detect your Canadian coins. If you can just accept one or two numbers in the iron range and still get enough of a response for those coins you are good.

I have heard this low frequency EMI coming from buried electrical wires for sprinkler systems, electric cattle fences and those wireless systems that keep pets in a confined area. For certain there are other EMI sources too.

Thanks for the feed back.It is very appreciated.I have done Factory reset many times.Clean under the coil after every hunt and several times during the hunt. Before I start detecting I aways do a noise cancel and a ground balance.Have played around with the sensitivity, the accept/reject button..etc.Nothing seems to cancel out the VDI noise in the All Metal Mode.I can still pick up the different sound for the different metals but the constant noise/chatter,false signals, is enough to drive a person insane.I have contacted Minelab but have not heard back.Right now I don't know if its the machine or me....the battle goes on..many thanks.

At least your 900 is still under warranty.

Good luck!!!

Coils have been known to break, and ALL coils are not made the same. 😎
