  • The title was changed to Coiltek 18” Coil Any Good?
  • 2 weeks later...

Used one briefly that a friend provided to test out.....

1. This is a heavy coil. For some, a bungee or harness is a must unless you are only hunting a very short time.

2. I saw no depth increase over the M11 or M15 coil (on coin/ring sized targets). If you are searching for bigger items then this size coil starts to make sense. Sensitivity needs to be reduced when compared against a smaller coil unless you like lots of falsing.

3. Pinpointing does become harder but bigger coils are mostly guilty of this.

4. For my hunting, I have absolutely no need for this coil.

5. I feel it is those seeking bigger than coin/ring sized targets. Extra coverage is technically there but in long hunts, I'm not so sure.

6. Big, solid well built coil....not for the faint hearted.

I think it comes down to soil conditions, although a heavy beast as I use the GPZ a lot I still find it a light detector setup, but normally a bungee would be advisable.

As for depth as I'm in mild soil I seem to see the benefits of these larger coils that people in hotter soils may not.  It gives me extra depth over the 15x12" and really rivals the CTX 3030 with 17x13" for depth, on smaller targets it does better.
