“Gold Monster 2000 – The Gold Imposter That’s Really a PLF!”

Just got done swinging the new Gold Monster 2000 (GM2K) and I’m flat-out blown away. I’m gonna say it loud: this thing ain’t no regular VLF. It’s a straight-up PLF – Pulse-Like Frequency. Feels and acts like a PI wearing a VLF mask.

Where I detect in the Northern Sierra Nevada the ground is hot and mineralized. Normal VLF gold machines just scream and cry around here. I had the old Gold Monster 1000 a few years back – hated it, couldn’t make it shut up, let it collect dust and finally sold it. Thought I was done with Minelab’s “easy” gold vlf detectors forever.

Then the GM2K dropped… and wow. Different animal completely.

This thing eats hot ground for breakfast. Hot rocks? It calls them out clean and clear – no guessing. Target ID is scary accurate for tiny gold. That Echo Wave secondary audio is pure cheating on iffy signals – you just KNOW when it’s gold. I’m digging way less trash in old trashy diggings now, just shove the junk aside and keep hunting crumbs. Still gotta be in the right spot (no magic wand), but man, it sniffs out the little pickers and even a few sunbakers in places that have been hammered by other detectorists. 

Best part? Within an hour it just clicked. Felt like an extension of my arm. Only PI’s ever gave me that kinda trust before. Now the GM2K does too.

So yeah, call it what you want – Minelab can say “multi-frequency VLF” all day long. Out in the field it’s running like a dang PI that hits fly-poo gold. 

Last couple of short day detecting trips out. Just having a ball with it. Like a kid in a candy store.

I don’t have a GM2k but I must confess that I like the Echo Wave!  If you’re half asleep it’ll WAKE YOU UP!  Given a little time, I believe it’ll prove to be a winner.

I can feel a pissing competition coming on. 😂  I don't have a 2k but went out for a few hours yesterday afternoon with my 1k. I know its bread & butter is bedrock scrubbing, literally. So I did just that. Scrapped off the moss & dirt overburden with my pick & then scrubbed the schist bedrock cracks & crevices with a dish washing scrubber brush. Occasionally having to rip out the cracks with my little scrapper. 

 

Only had 9 tiny bits at this stage but ended up with 17 for just .19 of a gram.

Like I said, I'm in for a pissing competition with the 2k for fly shyt gold.😂 Any takers??

We hunt the same ground, and I was just as impressed. This is a true quantum leap in VLF technology, and anyone familiar with the challenges of prospecting in the Sierras will recognize it. A genuine game changer — and an outstanding patch hunter.

The 2000 appears to somewhat be giving the performance we in milder ground people have had for decades with VLF's, while I can't imagine them finding the tiny bits we can find they are happy to be finding around .06 - .1 of a gram with a smidge of depth to it. We can often find the 0.00X to 0.0X of a gram with more depth in milder soils.  

With gold priced how it is, more people can be bothered recovering the flakes.
