I remember in the 80's being asked to design and illustrate a logo for the new Gold Bug when Jim Lewellen was alive. The "GOLD BUG" text in the logo is from an old poster font from the California prospector days and the bug icon was based on an Egyptian Scarab. Pretty simple concept, but everybody loved it thankfully! Quite the foresight Dave Johnson had when he designed this detector.

"Wanted Dead or Alive" font from the posters in the old Western movies.........

As for the Egyptian Scarab Beetle "Bug".....right here in Australia we have our very own "Dung Beetle"...doesn't sound quite as glamorous though 😆

Simple, workhorse design, no fancy displays - I wish manufacturers would go back to at least having one unit in their line ups like this. The Gold Finder 1000 was close, gold shaft and all! 

I remember doing training on units like the XT18000 and Eureka Gold and customers would pull out their instruction manual and ask me where I'd recommend (for starters) they set their various pots and switches, and they would mark it with a red pen.
