Got Some More Really Old Stuff Today

Now that all the holiday stuff is over, I finally got a chance to get out for a days' hunt. I invited Chase down, we went back to a farm we have been finding a lot of good (and really old) stuff at, all late 17th century. We think the farm was the site of a hunting camp long ago, then a house was built which was gone by the 50s, but a house built in 1903 still stands there now remodeled.

The field is about 100 acres. 

Today I had the Manticore with the M9 and a new stubble plate:

I wanted to see how well it performed in the corn stalks, and also the bean field (another 50 acres) across the road.

It was really cold early, got nice, and then the wind came up a bit and it got really cold again. We were there about 6 hours.

The stubble plate worked great, I never got hung up on the corn stalks or the beans. It fits tightly and feels like it won't come off. Well worth the wait from the UK, and really the price, about $50 with shipping. Shame no one makes them here. 🤔

We did ok, got some small stuff here and there, I'm gridding the oldest spot and got some more:

A few buttons including a drilled shank button, and a very old blowhole button, some Tombac bits, and an oval with a monogram from the newer spot. Yet another "Throckmorton" among the saddle pins. 😏

We went to the bean field across the road and found absolutely nothing. 😵 A few years ago I did find a Civil War Eagle I button there, but try as we might have we didn't find anything else.

Got a pretty hefty amount of junk, but if you want anything you have to dig it:

The large handmade iron spike was a solid 71 🙄 and the pocket watch was pretty toasted silver plated brass. The M9 falses a lot more on iron than the M15 but it was nice to get some more good finds out of this place. I was hoping for more Spanish Silver, but maybe next time. 🙂

At least you got some nice old buttons. Also, the buttons, lead, pulltabs and shotgun shells would suggest you haven’t found everything there is to find out there yet.

The stubble cover looks to be 3-D printed. I have to wonder if they make anything like that for the D2 coils.

Yep, going back soon. 🙂

This website has Deus stubble covers, they take a few weeks to get here and shipping is costly but worth it IMHO. 🤔

Just not sure they will fit Deus 2 coils.

Great finds, I love when the colonial stuff starts showing up. That stubble cover looks like it would work good in the soybean field I have recently been taking my detector for a walk in. Hopefully someone will start making on in the USA soon. Until then maybe I can rig something up with a Frisbee and zip ties😁

Thanks, I considered doing some "rural engineering" like that. 🤔 Post your results! 

The stubble cover is very well made, and pretty rugged. Well worth the wait and price. 👍

Warm weekend coming up, I'm headed back to the old tomorrow.
