  • The title was changed to First Day On The 7000 My Take Aways

Did you buy it new? The shaft shouldn't slip, I'm rough with my detectors, they get beaten around in the bushy rocky terrain and the only time I had a problem with my GPZ shaft was when the little rubber clip broke on a lower shaft then the thing was bad.    I use my GPZ as a bulldozer in long grass and have no issues at all with the shaft other than when the clip rubber broke but that happened in my car, I think I crushed the coil and it twisted sideways.

The little clips marked with red arrows with rubber on them are what was broken on mine, I just ordered the little rubber parts off the ML service agent.

If the rubber wears out or they crack, the shaft doesn't hold well.

Your settings seem good, depending on your ground normal is probably not going to work well but 12 in difficult should be pretty good, I run in HY/Normal 20 and I don't find it noisy but maybe I'm used to it, it is noisier than the 5000 that's for sure but quiet compared to the 6000.

It's been that long since I've used the standard coil, I really can't remember how noisy it was.

No reason your SP01 shouldn't work, I ran the WM12 to get wireless from the detector to the WM12 then plugged the SP01 into the WM12 then the SP01 into my twin GME SPK07 speakers when I used the SP01 on it.

No its used.  I didnt want to go all in on another detector hoping the 8000 will eventually show its self and then I will.  I do really really well with my 6000 up here and wanted a patch cleaner and something that goes a bit deeper. Ill check the rubber clips. My guess is they are shot. Ill have to try the sp01 again.  I have two of them.  Im gonna run my Avantees with a transmitter this summer when it gets to hot for muffs. I tested them akready. Not as good of sound as my Sunrays but not to bad either.

A couple of grams will wet your whistle!

You answered one of my questions I think ... you are still in Montana and no snow?  That makes a difference in your ground.

I use the sp01 just like Simon.  I can crank up the volume.  I can run with more sensitivity because of the X-coils.

The shaft shouldn't slip.  Can you ask the seller if they noticed the problem and when did it start?

Yeah no snow.  Im bummed.  I just had back Surgery or Id be out everyday it was nice out.  Probably could of banked in some more ounces this winter.   Rained an inch last night and was 52 degrees sunny and no wind.  Crazy for Montana and January..  Im gonna disect that shaft and see if I can figure it out. Its probably the rubber clips. Not a huge deal.  Ill just hockey tape that thing if worse comes to worse.

The water temperature of the ocean is more than 3 degrees above normal so that plays a part.

You just use a screwdriver or something and slide the metal pins out, from there you can dismantle it easily.  If you send a photo of the part to the service center, they can give you the parts.  They were cheap, I bought a bunch of them for spares as I have about 10 or so lower shafts for my coils.

Instead of replacing the pads, I built them up with a touch of glue from a hot glue gun. I tried to apply an even coating to form the same shape as the pads. I applied a little too much, which prevented the mechanism from closing. I then melted it down a little at a time with a soldering iron until the right thickness was achieved, allowing it to close properly.

I was intending to replace the pads, but thought I'd give this a try to see if it worked first. Two years on, it has worked perfectly.
