I was checking the XP forum for news and came across this:

https://xp.xpmetaldetectors.com/extension_garantie/

They are allowing people with D2 bundles or coils the ability to purchase a 10 year warranty on the Deus 2 or accessory coil. 🤯

In USD the warranty extension currently  is about $60 for a coil, and about $120 for a whole D2 setup.

Your coil or Deus 2 has to be less than 2 years old, and you must provide proof of purchase. Most of my stuff is around 4 years old now but I did buy a second RC recently, and the HF2 coil.

That's some pretty serious confidence in their products!

  • The title was changed to Deus 2 10 year warranty?
  • The title was changed to Deus 2 Ten Year Warranty?

You really need to read the entire warranty very carefully.  They don't cover weak batteries even within the 2 year warranty period.

‘Weak’ batteries is a highly subjective term.  What the warranty exception actually states is that battery replacement due to battery degradation with age is not covered.  All lithium batteries naturally degrade in capacity with age and number of cycles.  No manufacturer covers age/cycle-based degradation of rechargeable batteries.  That being said, it would be highly unusual for a battery to exhibit noticeable capacity degradation within the first 2-years without there being some inherent defect or user-based misuse (e.g., a user charging a battery outside of the prescribed ambient temperature limits or with an incompatible charger).  From my direct experience, XP has never hedged on replacing a clearly defective/“weak” battery within the warranty period or questioned how that may have come about and have honored their warranty terms.  I also know of situations where XP replaced defective batteries free just outside of the two-year warranty period.  Furthermore, the replacement battery cost (parts and labor) outside of the warranty period a generally reasonable (less than $50).

I also have Deus 1/Orx units over 10 years old whose batteries are still going strong.

Curious if you have first hand experience with XP batteries that differs from what I’ve described above.  Thanks.

Also, for comparison, Minelab and Nokta cover their rechargeable batteries for the first 6 months, Garrett’s 3-year Vortex warranty explicitly excludes the batteries altogether.

I'm interested in the extension warranty as for now D2 is my main water detector.. screenshotted this from xp website

As for "Corrosion of electronics circuits due to water ingress" what does it mean? let say the rc damaged/non working due to water ingress.. does xp will replace it as waranty or I need to buy new remote?

As for "Breakage of cables or wires".. does this also included cables/or wires inside the RC? Does cable deteriorate  due to "old age" (maybe in the next 7-10 years) excluded from warranty?

It's common sense folks.

This is a two way street.  The company stands behind its product but it also has to protect itself from end user misuse and age related degradation.  The warranty is there to primarily protect the consumer from latent manufacturing defects that can cause pre-mature failure of the equipment.

Regarding water ingress damage, the remote and coils are designed to be water tight.  In the absence of a manufacturing defect or end-user misuse (e g., improper user disassembly reassembly of the case seals or not utilizing the right sealing plug for deep submergence), then water damage should simply not occur.  If XP determines the water ingress damage is the result of a manufacturing or design defect then you should be covered under warranty. If you don't install the right plug on a dive and water enters the case, then that's on you.

Breakage of cables or wires usually occurs due to misuse (subjecting the equipment to impact) or cyclic fatigue.  I don't expect much "cable degradation" or broken wires in sealed units that are not subject to cyclic stresses such as due to constant bending.  I am certain that if XP determines a broken wire connection is the result of a manufacturing defect such as a poor solder connection, then you would be covered.

Hope that helps.

They don’t cover the the backfone arms ,and they’re quite fragile when you unfold them

I've had 2 sets of them for 4 years now, and am still using the originals. Inexpensive replacement part. I thought they might be fragile so bought a spare, haven't used it yet.

I'm careful with mine and haven't had a problem over the years. They're almost as cheap as the postage charge if you do need to replace them though!

Sent my Deus 2 XL head phones in for repair.  They would unpair at random and at times no light would be on during the pairing mode.  Talked to the repair guy about the issues I was having and he mentioned unstable or weak battery.  Well, anyway I'll see how or what they do this week.  Either way, the Deus 2 is the very best performer I've owned in 25+ years of detecting.  Absolutely no complaints.

I love them
