This guy does some creek detecting with his GM2000, it's mostly a marketing video but he does find some little bits in crevices that turn into a fair bit more smaller gold pieces when he pans out the crevices.  This is typical NZ creek detecting, it looks like he's on the West Coast of the South Island.

Doing this is how I dropped my GM1000 into the water, and drowned it, it died but I was able to dry it out by pulling it apart and cleaning it with alcohol and get it working again.  The rocks can get very slippery with moss which coincidently has proven to be a great gold trap and plenty of little bits can be found in the moss.  At about the 8.40 mark he's yapping with some nice looking moss in the background, when the creeks in flood gold gets can get caught in it.

  • The title was changed to A Detexpert In NZ Using The GM 2000

We drove the west coast of the South Island and saw many beautiful places.  We stopped at a couple of glacier fed rivers and wished I would have known where it was safe to detect.  As I had to make time and everyone else in the car was sleeping, I'm the only one who remembers it.  I did see one Kiwi which is unusual I'm told.  They are quite shy.

There really are quite a few places with gold over there on that side but there are areas near Simon as well.  If he can stay healthy he'll be putting some in his poke this year with the 2000.  That coil doesn't need to be bigger.  It fits lots of hiding spots now.

Phrunt......the master of understatement

Now, if only a GM1000 could find gold like that

I'd be hopelessly conflicted on a stream like that......wouldn't know what to reach for first...the detector or the fly rod.

It would certainly be easier to catch a trout than to find a bit of gold.
