hi. with my gpx i have two batteries with the reference sony NP-F980L, i fully charge them, but when i put at the gpx after a few minutes, it start's beep, and turn's off. the sony battery say it has xx battery, but the gpx say it has yy battery, so i supose the batteries are finished (with a original gpx battery it doesn't happens... it last for a few hours). i attached some photos, and the connections that the last person had made to it.

looking at the Lightweight GPX Battery kits at the internet, i see that who made them use NP-F970/F960 or NP-960/970, i see they put a wire inside the battery... but at this battery i have it's only connected at the top of the battery... does anyone have photos or a youtube video how they are made?

or someone have lightweight alternatives of batteries? thanks

  • The title was changed to Alternative Battery Minelab GPX 4500 - Lightweight GPX Battery

A 7.4V, 8800mAH battery like you are showing should last multiple hours, at least 6 to 7 hours or more, on a GPX series detector.  Most likely cause of your short battery life is that the battery is old and won't fully charge or hold a charge.

Usually those types of batteries have an adapter that connects it to the detector and there are no external wires on the battery itself so it looks to be a home made setup.  Not clear how that battery with wires would connect to a proper charger.

Ron's Detectors has a classifieds add on this forum and he can sell you a proper light weight setup.

I believe that the GPX series of Minelab detectors are used in Europe by persons seeking deep treasure like hoard.

Since you are in Europe, I would suggest that if you post your battery questions on a treasure seeking forum in Europe that you should get answers with a local solution.  This may help you to avoid import costs.

in europe the big market is the vlfs, it's possible that some people use gpx in europe, but if i need help about gpx, i need to ask at forums of australia or america, it's were the big market of this type of detectors are.... if i need help for example about xp deus 2, or manticore, that, i can ask in europe, there are probably more people using this type of detectors here. for example, i was curious about The Outback Prospector GPX Series, the dvds, i can't get that in europe, i can't buy from australia, they don't ship. i'm curious about a specific nugget finder coil, only one store sell in europe, and right now, they have no stock!! it is what it is, not everyone want a detector for this type of hunting here.

in this case, i'm just asking if someone have modified that type of sony batteries, or have other type of modifications. if they have videos or photos of the modification, only that. or if they have post's at the forum that i didn't saw. i'm not trying to buy anything, only seeking information, because a lot of people use alternative batteries at gpx.

I was going to buy one of Rons battery setups but since I already had the battery box for making my own I did that-Go to the classifieds and Ron has a bunch of his setups there-You can also try just buying a new battery and see if that fixes your problem 😐
