Some coins have such a small hole I would think you would have to have a needle attached to the string to get the string through such a tiny hole.  🤔 Great older looking finds.

Some silver and gold coins were worn as pendants, or other jewelry..., but I don't exclude the fact that coins were tied together with strings or wire...
