When 4.1 comes out I guess we'll have to update the remote again? Or just the mono headphones?

Looks like it. The website does not say when it will come, it only says “soon”. Despite that, it looks like it is worth the trouble and extra wait. The V4 and 4.1 look interesting indeed. I think I will wait on this till it is all out and working properly.

No reason for me to rush, -22F here this morning. Gonna be a while.

Future update should have option to morph the stereo into one tone. Then all can benefit.

Once the stereo adapter for WS6 is out, Sharpshooter has one, all you need is an adapter. Might as well put it in the firmware so those with special headphones can benefit. And you’re not sabotaging those supporting your product.

It may/not be beneficial. It could be less disorienting for some use.

It’s the combination of two detectors in one that is the benefit. Not being in stereo doesn’t remove the benefit.

That doesn't sell the new product even though it potentially makes the original headphones near as good as the new ones in finding targets.

XP remind me a little bit of Tupperware, now they're adding a 10-year warranty option too.  Tesoro had a lifetime warranty, but their product wasn't near as advanced, and improvements were coming in force over those old models.  When detectors now are pushing it for VLF technology where each small advancement is now a huge deal new models don't change results all that much, so XP have come out with this new upgraded headphone option to bring in sales revenue from existing customers, and it's worth the investment by the sound of it.

This is a copy and paste of a story on Tupperware.

Tupperware didn’t fail because its product was bad — it failed because it was too good. The product was built so durable that customers never needed to buy a replacement, slowly killing repeat sales.

What started as a badge of quality became a business nightmare. With no upgrades, no breakdowns, and no reason for customers to return, revenue dried up despite widespread praise.

The story has gone viral as one of the biggest ironies in business history — proving that great engineering alone doesn’t guarantee survival. Sometimes, longevity isn’t good for business.

Other brands have to be careful too now we are just about at peak VLF performance, releasing endless firmware updates with improvements means a new model is very hard to justify and ends up not all that much different from the existing model, if only fixes were released rather than improvements and they're withheld for a new model it would be much easier.

Now for XP it's all about attracting new customers or addon products like these headphones as they're going to sell the Deus 2 for a decade or more and as a bulk of detector model sales are within 12 months of release this is a way to drive more sales revenue.

My old Deus 1 and its full set of coils are ticking along nicely still, after all these years the batteries still work fine and hold good charge, it's got to be getting near to 15 years old as I got it second hand and the original owner got it when it came out.  No doubt's XP make a quality Tupperware product  Brilliant for customers, not so good for the company itself for future sales.

I have a D1, very happy with it. However, slow and fast recovery at the same time sounds like a killer.

But I realized I’d be crazy to buy one for probably six months because they just made their entire product lineup obsolete.

Add an option to morph the two channels into one or die.

Osborne Computer Corporation: The Infamous "Osborne Effect"

- The company’s downfall began in early 1983 when Adam Osborne began showing prototypes of the next-generation machine, the Osborne Executive, to journalists and dealers months before it was ready to ship.

“The Reaction: Customers immediately stopped buying the current Osborne 1, waiting for the better, upcoming model.”

- The Consequences: Orders were canceled, and unsold inventory piled up. This phenomenon—where announcing a future product kills sales of the current one—became known as the "Osborne Effect".

The idea of slow and fast reactivity is a relatively old thing..in . I first encountered this idea in a comment from my colleague Kofa on our Czech forum - Detektor Ring in 20102011 year.. who had a Spectra V3... where he said that if the Spectra V3 could work on 2 reactivities at the same time --- it would be a great thing.. also remember that the Spectra V3 already had stereo headphones...

The fact that XP put this idea into practice is a commendable thing,,, and I see a positive in it... which will definitely be transferred to practical detection..

It will also require a certain amount of experience from the detectorist regarding the good setting of both channels.. detection...

As for the possibility of VLF detectors. of different brands.. I still see certain reserves in performance that are manifested in a certain brand of detector on a certain terrain and situation... / this was also confirmed by tests a few days ago... / that the capabilities of the detectors which can be improved..maybe by 10-35% depending on the type of terrain..if the detector and program settings are optimized for the given terrain...
The rest of the performance is up to the user's experience..

TnSharpshooter has a video of two different recovery speeds in PWM. Setup with high/low tone for different speeds giving two tones when it is close and changing to one tone as it gets further away. Essentially a tonal depth indicator.

Through the controller’s speaker you only hear channel one. When he sets the microphone between the headphone speakers, you hear the effect in mono.

It works, you do hear the effect as the coil is raised and lowered.

It could be that there is a hardware reason they can’t convert the stereo to mono in current controller.
