  • The title was changed to GM 2000 Loving It!

Now there is a review / opinion that actually tells me something that others have not, and makes me rethink my prior negative overall view of the 2000, it sounds like the audio acts more like the old style Linear pre processor detectors did, where you could hear the minute changes in the tones and threshold, something lost with more power and signal processing.

Now if they only halved the price they would sell 10 times more.!

Yes it is expensive! I got it for a Christmas present. I defiantly would have never bought it at top price otherwise. I was going to wait it out and wait for "in Minelab fashion" lower the prices once the hype has settled down. And then they give freebies away with it later. I say that, I have bought 4 different Minelab machines through the years. LOL If you could borrow one for a little bit, and you like that style of threshold. I think you will like it. Also does not seem to be as bump sensitive as the 1000. Another thing I found interesting is I found an old river channel the other day. There are a lot of hot rocks in the area. Had this one hit where it was reading was on the ferrous side reading a high number.. In my ear it did not sound the same as the other hot rocks I encountered. So i gave it a dig. out pops the hot rock, a lead bb, and below those was a very small nugget. All in the same hole. Wished I would have spent more time to swing over that target to analyze it more. I have noticed on some types of hot rock the processor is trying to cancel it out the sound. Starts off loud then slow starts to fade out. not totally but fade out non the less. Is any one else having that same experience with hot rocks?

"That is what I like so much about the Goldmonster 2000. I get a ton of information just from the audio responses. Even if I was just using the standard detection threshold tone audio and not Echo Wave Audio, the GM2000 responds with clear, repeatable tone pitch patterns similar to a pulse induction detector for ferrous, non ferrous and hot rock targets that I can depend on because they are being processed with Multi AU technology. Overlay those threshold tone audio response patterns with Echo Wave Audio and it's a no brainer.

I have watched entire 20 to 30 minute YouTube videos by some very famous USA reviewers. Very few of them have even mentioned these tone pitch patterns even though they are clearly audible in their videos especially when recovering targets sweeping the GM2000 coil with a scoop. The same goes for many of the posters on this forum who have written pages of stuff about the GM2000 and never mentioned it. Bill Southern at "Nugget Shooter" and Adam at "I Brake For Bedrock" have mentioned these PI like audio responses in some of their GM2000 YouTube videos as has Lunk on this forum.

Maybe people just can't hear them or they are more focused on what is on the GM2000 screen or they are swinging the GM2000 so fast that those audio response patterns are obliterated."

Some have mentioned the GM2000 as having three levels of discrimination: Echo Wave Audio, Gold Chance Indicator and Target IDs. For me there is a fourth level and the one I depend on first and those are the PI like audio response pitch patterns heard in the Detect Audio threshold tone with Echo Wave Audio OFF. One could also say that the three soil type settings are also useful for discrimination.

Goldmonster 1000 had one level of discrimination (aside from that weird disc mode) and it was very unreliable. GM2000 has four or five and they are all very reliable. For me that is worth the higher price of the GM2000 all day.

Yes! I could have not come close to the way you just worded it the way you just did. Bravo. But yes. audio sounds, pitch/tone's is what sold me. Thanks for that response. Still learning it, I think as time goes on "tip and tricks" will come out to further this topic. Have you noticed it try to discriminate some hot rocks out too?

I would say the gold was a bonus once you got down a bit. The original signal was most likely the hot rock, then the BB & as you got down & removed those the gold came into "view". What depth was the gold at? If you kept digging or followed along then more gold may have popped up. Has happened to me more times than I can remember.

Great impression/review. As I am a bit on the fence with the 2000 due to its price. I am still having fun with the 1000 in spots that it shines in.

I think it is just a matter of interpretation, the Echo Wave tones seem to be just that tones, what I was referring to is he mentions slight changes in threshold. This is what old pre processor Analog Detector audio would do, that very slight increase or decrease in threshold on targets not strong enough to cause a tone change, BUT told you something may be there.
